Super User Catt Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 Flip, pitch, or punch it with jigs or Texas rigs Quote
David301 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Google "punching grass for bass"..basically it is using a large bullet weight, 1oz or more to punch through the thick grass. Quote
matstone7 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 You may also consider fishing any pockets with a keel weighted anaconda. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 Here is a great thread about fishing hydrilla. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/79539-heavy-hydrilla-tactics/ Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 We don't have hydrilla, but we do have water chestnut.....get your heavy gear out and start punching it. Quote
zenyoungkoh Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 or try fishing frogs, they work excellent for me in the mats. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 14, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 14, 2011 I fish a buzz frog with 1 .25 oz bullet weight pegged. Fish over the top fast and then stop it and let it flutter down into the holes and the outside edge. Heavy rod and 65 lb braid. Quote
Jaydee Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 In my opinion there are two things to do or try in this situation. 1 go in after em by punching the grass with heavy weights or 2 fishing something over the top quick enough to elicit a reaction strike and have them come up through the grass to get it. Also a key to grass is looking for other types of grass within the dominant grass as this will give bass something different or key to hold on! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 18, 2011 Super User Posted September 18, 2011 One of the best presentations I have used for that senario is a Chatterbait. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted September 18, 2011 Super User Posted September 18, 2011 Time of day and conditions would determine what I would do. Bluebird skies would tell me to punch on thru with a jig or t-rig. On cloudy/low light days, I would be fishing the tops with a shallow running crank ticking the tops of the weeds or a spinnerbait fished the same way. If I fish spinnerbaits, I would kill the retrieve at any openings and let it helicopter on down. Topwaters would get the nod here as well. I would also try a jig or t-rig and fish the edges and see if I can hook into some active fish. If all the above fails, I'd go back to punching on thru. Quote

Never tried a buzz frog, but I know a hoo daddy works. Quote
