North Ga Hillbilly Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I was looking around the internet and saw these rods. They talk about having Tungsten in them, not sure why on earth one would want a dense heavy metal in their rods, but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience or an idea where they were going with this one. Integrated Tungsten! The new 6th Sense Tungsten-X Custom Rods are not only beautifully crafted, light, and balanced but EXTREMELY SENSITIVE. The blanks are made in the USA of the highest grade graphite possible. Prices range from $289-$419 depending on the components, upgrades, length, etc. http://www.6thsenselures.com/#!__rods/photocarousel0=10 No, I'm going ahead and saying I have no interest in buying one, just wanted to know if anyone had an idea what it was about. Thanks NGaHB Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I would think there would be different materials that could perform the same function but with better weight reduction. But with a very non pourous material, the sensitivity would be heightened. Kind of the reason why flourocarbon transmits the bottom contour and bites better than mono, and braid does it better than flouro. I wouldn't buy one, but I would like to try one. I think it has good potential to work well, but surely there are better things to use. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 Looks like hype to me. The website navigation feels "homebrewed." I'm sure they're nice rods, but no track record, no real specs, and no stated warranty. Just a yahoo email account and some pictures. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 Some idiot will order one thinking the rod has tungsten in it. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Some idiot will order one thinking the rod has tungsten in it. I dont doubt there is tungsten in the rod, just not enough to do anything or it would weigh a ton. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 I assumed the same. I figgure they are just using the hype around tungsten weights and the such Quote
Super User South FLA Posted September 19, 2011 Super User Posted September 19, 2011 How about this for a hyped up gimmick rod name: "Ultra Lite eXtreme Series Rod" Featuring SS micro guides with tungsten guide inserts Boron/graphite/kevlar weave blank Carbon fiber reel seat material and eXtremely durable EVA foam split grips Quote

Casey Sobczak Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 The 6th Sense Tungsten-X Rods are new to the market as well as our entire company. We would like to clear up the issue that we do not use HYPE marketing to sell a product in any way. To answer some questions and comments: The rod is actually integrated with Tungsten into the butt end of the blank. This balances the rod out and places less stress on the wrists. If any of you have never used a balance rod then I understand your concern with "how a heavier rod feels lighter/better" at the end of the day. We did blind tests with balanced rods and unbalanced rods and the balanced Tungsten rod was chosen as "lighter" by the participant when the rod actually weighed 1.5oz more than the other unweighted rod. These weighted rods were designed by some of the best local pros around Sam Rayburn and Toledo and ALL of them preferred the Tungsten Weighted rods to an original unweighted blank. Otherwise, we would not have chosen to use the weighting system. *We do not Tungsten Integrate all of our models, i.e. Cranking Rods, Jerkbait Rods, Topwaters Rods, etc. My main concern with this thread was the assumption that 6th Sense was using false advertising or marketing gimmicks to sell anglers our products. This will never be the case with 6th Sense Tackle Co. We try to offer the highest quality possible and ALWAYS care about what our customers think. If you EVER have any questions about our products, feel free to contact me ANYTIME. Hopefully in the future as 6th Sense grows, we will be able to make a more user friendly website with more information about our products. We are in the beginning stages of this game and have many big things coming. Please bare with us in the meantime. Kindest Regards, Casey Sobczak Owner, 6th Sense Custom Tackle Co. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted October 11, 2011 Super User Posted October 11, 2011 You might want to put that info on your website. Many custom rod builders are selling balanced rods. Good luck in your endeavor. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 11, 2011 Super User Posted October 11, 2011 Just curious, what advantage is there to using tungsten to counterbalance a rod over lead, or spare change for that matter? Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I could see it being useful if you needed more weight in a tighter space. But, the butt ends look to be the same size as most other rod butts. Its a good idea, and I agree, a well balanced rod feels better than a lighter non balanced in most cases. The use of Tungsten is probably not needed however. But as a business, I ain't gonna say its a bad idea to incorporate it into the rod or into the selling slogan. I actually thinks its smart as a business...why not get as many people as you can to jump on the Tungsten train? lol Hopefully the people that buy won't be getting the rod because they think it will transit extra sensitivity because tungsten is being used. Mils Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I actually have three of the 6th sense rods and love them. They are very well built with top of the line componets. My 7'11" grass flipper is my favorite of the three but I also have a 7' heavy I throw weightless flukes and trickworms with and a 6'6" topwater rod that has been abused and still performs great, it has caught everything from bream to Jack creavale at the coast . I would highly recomened them. Thanks! Quote
