Jake P Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Hit a pond sunday evening with a buddy. Tall brush all the way around and about 6 feet of slop to stand behind and cast over into the pond. After an hour we had hooked up with 6. most were right by the edge of the slop. Now i know why people use H action rods to drop lures into that junk cause i didnt think i was gonna be able to pull em out of all of it. We get ready to leave and i feel a tickle. Thinking its a usual itch or a fly i disreguard. Acouple minutes later i feel it again and look down to see a tick sucking me to death. I screamed like a woman and pulled it off. I was halfway home in my car and feel somethin on the back of my neck. Thinking its my consience i give a quick feel and nothing. I feel it again and do a full sweep of my neck and shoulders. Bam!!!! Another one. Luckily it wasnt attached yet. I get home terrified and have my wife give me the FULL lookover and im good to go. Wshed my clothes 2 times and the bag i had my tackle in as well. After a great deal of research i learned it was not the infamous deer tick that carries lyme disease, just a dog tick. Scary nonetheless...I will find a new pond though. I think i caught the same fish twice in a row cause they were identical in size... Quote
brushhoggin Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 they like that dry weather yall are gettin over there. they love to chill in that tall brush and just hitch a ride on the next passing creature. imagine if that's how humans had to eat can you imagine? i've discovered ticks in places that would make your spine shutter. glad you could at least catch some bass. Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 13, 2011 Super User Posted September 13, 2011 Some of the strip mine lakes I fish are loaded with ticks , I've taken as many as 25 off my person after fishing them. Needless to say I quit fishing those particular lakes. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 15, 2011 Global Moderator Posted September 15, 2011 The worst you can come across is a nest of seed ticks. I walked through one a few weeks ago setting my trail camera out. I kept feeling like something was crawling on me but couldn't see what. I finally looked really close at my legs and I was covered with ticks the size of pin heads I hurried home and got in the shower and scrubbed like crazy. After I finally felt like I got them all I made sure none of them were still alive and trying to climb back out. Just from what I saw there was no less than 50 of them on me and probably a lot more. Took a couple days before I got over the feeling of something crawling on me. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Scared to the death of ticks! After getting home from a week in the boundaries waters, I took my shirt off and couldn't help but notice a dime size tick on my collarbone. Luckily my mom heard me screaming bc I passed out a few minutes later. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 26, 2011 Super User Posted September 26, 2011 Yep seed tick are the worst. I went out walking the bank a couple of years ago with tennis shoes on and no socks in ankle high weeds. I had about 4 of them down between my toes and pulled some more out of my tennis shoes. Now I always were socks. Quote
