I went down to Miami (blue lagoon area) yesterday morning to target some peacocks. Its been a while since I've been down there. Since I have not seen a peacock in Broward or Palm beach in over a year,I figured down south was my best bet. Needless to say I was determined to find and hook up with some lol.

I was on the water by sun up and was graced with a peacock on the first cast of the day. It fell victim to a medium size zara spook. The strike was pretty soft, not the normal blow ups that come with peacock fishing. After numerous missed strikes, I switched up to a prop bait. I was hoping that would be the ticket, since that is more of a stop a go style lure. well they didn't want anything to do with that, since I could not even get a strike. I switched up yet again to a rapala shad-rap and that did the trick. I was able to hook up with a couple more, one being smaller then my lure. Others fell victim to a rapala x-rap, Including a baby snook and tarpon. I have never caught a freshwater tarpon and only caught a handful of freshwater snook, so it was a nice surprise. It also made for a nice little fight catching them on 8lb test. I did catch a couple of large mouths in the mix but nothing picture worthy. By mid afternoon i had enough with the sun. I left them biting and headed back to the ramp. I cant wait to go back!!

tightlines go get um!!!!

Great report! I have been meaning to get back there. Another good place is the east canal side of the Falls Mall. That place is loaded and has the prettiest/clear blue water.

Nice trip. Went down there last year and had a ball. Need to go back myself. Airport lakes isnt the same since the hydrilla is gone. Such a weird place to fish....urban bassing at its best.

I was the camera boat for an episode of LL Beans Guide to the Outdoors (should be aired in a week or two) and one day we put in at the Airport Lakes. Of course, these guys fly fished and caught some good ones and had a blast. They do a lot of their shows in exotic and beautiful places like Patagonia so "urban fishing" in SOFLA was quite a culture shock to them but they and the crew were good natured and we joked about urban structure in the water like shopping carts, lawn chairs and the occasional car.

The peacocks are a blast and I don;t go down there as much as I'd like to. Wish they were back up in Broward or PBC.

I caught two small peacock bass Saturday night fishing my golf course pond with my son. I've never been so pumped to catch a 13" bass. I hadn't caught a peacock in about two years and I was worried that the last cold snap might have got them all. There used to be a huge peacock (6-8lbs) that spawned right by my neighbors seawall but I haven't seen her in awhile.

Thanks everyone for the replies, glad everyone liked the thread. I will be sure to post more in the future. Ya the bottom structure down there is a little different with the shopping carts, tires etc. lol. I've tried the area by the mall before, but didn't have much luck. I will have to check it out next time. It's kind of cool to think miami is the only place in the world to catch all four species of game fish from the same body of water (as far as I know). I was trying to think of a name for it, like a "Quadfecta" or a "True grand-slam" since you really score four runs. What do you think, any suggestions?
