Super User J Francho Posted September 16, 2011 Super User Posted September 16, 2011 You have to admit, its tall claim, and being three pounds over the record, pretty astonishing. Here's talking about a fish that is merely 2 lbs. less than this fish:
tyrius. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 You have to admit, its tall claim, and being three pounds over the record, pretty astonishing. Here's talking about a fish that is merely 2 lbs. less than this fish: Can't watch youtube videos (work blocks them), but what's the difference? He said he weighed the fish on multiple scales (which he then tested one) and measured the fish. So, if you disagree with him, just call him a liar and be done with it. The pictures do nothing to show the true size of the fish. It's held about as far away from the camera as you can get and the guy's hand is covering the "gut" of the fish so you can't really see how fat it is. It's also been pretty clearly shown time and again that the naysayers aren't nearly as good at guessing the fish's weight (only from a picture) as they think they are.
Super User deep Posted September 16, 2011 Super User Posted September 16, 2011 Let's give the kid a break, shall we? At least, he's not claiming it weighed 16 lbs 4 ozs, and even if he did, and doing that makes him happy, why not just let it be?
tyrius. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Plus one of the main points of the thread is about bonding time fishing with his dad and all the "experts" only care about making sure that the weight that he reported is "accurate". Who freaking cares? Is it really a competition? Do you have to prove that he's a liar? Look at this fish, it weighed XX.XX!! Well who certified that catch? It's sad really. Some kid comes on here super excited about fishing with his dad while his dad caught a HUGE fish and the peanut gallery comes in and tries to tear the experience apart. Sorry, I just don't see the point in doing that. 1
Super User J Francho Posted September 16, 2011 Super User Posted September 16, 2011 Fair enough, I love that he spent time with his dad. Can we then agree that BassClary's photographic skills stink? He turned a 13 lb. fish into a 100 lb. headache. For the record, I don't think he intentionally lied. I think parralex and a flopping fish may have skewed the reading. It's a big one, and worth being excited about. One question tyrius: this thread has been dead since yesterday afternoon. Why add to the controversy?
tyrius. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 So, question for all of you experts. How much would this one weigh? I almost put guess what this one weighs, but you're not guessing are you?
Super User 00 mod Posted September 16, 2011 Super User Posted September 16, 2011 So, question for all of you experts. How much would this one weigh? I almost put guess what this one weighs, but you're not guessing are you? Do you want me to guess the dead weight or alive weight?
tyrius. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Do you want me to guess the dead weight or alive weight? Why would you have to guess? You don't know how much a fish weighs just by looking at a pic of it?
tyrius. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I may be wrong but the Potomac river record for a largemouth bass on the VA side is 10.1 lbs. So, congrats! You beat the state record by 3 pounds. This is truly a historic event... The Potomac record is "historic"? Dottie weighing 3 pounds more than the WORLD record bass was historic, the Potomac largemouth record is barely a footnote and it's 3 pounds less than the VA state record.
Fat-G Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Why would you have to guess? You don't know how much a fish weighs just by looking at a pic of it? Yep that's a good point. Looks like an 8 to me, but it was 16.4!
tyrius. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Yep that's a good point. Looks like an 8 to me, but it was 16.4! Just so that others don't freak out, it was actually 16.25. 16 lbs 4 ozs. 4/16 is 0.25. And 00 mod, I didn't catch it. I've never even been to VA so I doubt that I caught the state record fish there (which this is a pic of). Doesn't look all that big does it?
Super User J Francho Posted September 16, 2011 Super User Posted September 16, 2011 Alright, this is done.
