jeremyt Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 My vote is for Big Al. A few years ago I would have been in the argument for Dan Snyder, but it seems that even he realized how much he was screwing up the organization and he has taken a step back. ( at least as far as the public is concerned.) Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted September 12, 2011 Super User Posted September 12, 2011 Are we talking the worst owner the last couple of years, or the worst owner since he has owned the team. Al davis built a perennial contender in the 70s and 80s and then again in the early 2000s. Al davis might be one of the worst owners today, but not historically. Dan Snyder bought the skins in 1999 and brought forth his version of suckiness, so its been a long 12 years for skins fans. The Ford family on the other hand have owned the Lions for 45 years, and have 1 playoff victory to show for it. 1 playoff victory in 45 years. There can be no argument that the Ford family is by far the worst ownership in the NFL and probably all of pro sports. 1 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 13, 2011 Super User Posted September 13, 2011 Prior to the Ford family ownership the Lions were owned by Buddy Parker, the team had some excellent years, including a championship. Legend has it Parker sold the team as some of it's players were gambler's (Karas) and big time drinkers in public, most notably Bobby Layne, Parker hated drinking, so the team was eventually sold. At the time Bobby Layne was considered one of the very best last 2 minute QB's in the league, some say he never played sober. During that era of football, players generally had off season jobs, Layne owned a collision shop on Wyoming near puritan, down the street form dad's place. Layne was a fisherman, my dad and I went with him a few times, case of beer always on the seat next to him................lol Quote

Sfritr Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 If the Lions fair better than 8-8 that WOULD be considered a Super Bowl type season. They haven't won 8 games in the last 3 seasons combined...... However, (and I can't believe I am saying this) this is the beginning of the turnaround for the Lions. Their only drawback will be William Clay Ford Sr. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted September 13, 2011 Super User Posted September 13, 2011 http://www.curseofbobbylayne.com/index2.html Check out the curse, little known except to Lions fans, not me, and hardcore NFL fans, me. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 13, 2011 Super User Posted September 13, 2011 The McCaskey family gets my vote. Woulda...coulda...shoulda...Bears. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 The curse article was great. Some of what the article failed to mention was a chance of hiring Don Shula as head coach, it was the lions decision not to hire him. All those losses to the Vikings and in so many cases the Lions had beaten the crap out of Minnesota all day long only to lose in the last few seconds. Terrible injuries, was it Reggie Brown linebacker( can't really remember the name), paralyzed and the death on field of Chuck Hughes. We in Detroit are well aware of the curse. Quote
llPa1nll Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I will have to go with Al Davis on this one. I am also so grateful for the Krafts who bought the Patriots and turned that team around in a major way. I would guess would have to be one of the top 5 owners of the NFL. B) Quote
