What do you like best for a reel seat on a casting rod?? I like the ECS due to comfort in hand. Today I looked at a Abu Garcia Vendetta rod and I think it had an ACS reel seat, and surprisingly it's not uncomfortable. Just different feeling. How do you all like it?? Not necessarily the rod, but any rod that has an ACS reel seat, or any of the other minimal reel seats that are 2 piece, or even the TCS reel seat that has no cutout??

Favorite is the ECS. I built a rod for myself thinking I'd like the ACS....HATE IT! after a while, my hand starts to hurt. I think it's too small (16mm), where the ECS seats are 17mm. Hate the Minimas too for the same reason. they give an even smaller profile than the ACS.

I have a friend that all he wants me to put on his rods are ACS, but he has smaller hands.

I like the ECS, but that's all I have ever had.

I got a Smoke rod and actually like the reel seat for palming the reel. I put the trigger between my 3rd and pinky fingers. Too on my spinning reels I put the reel base stem between the same fingers so the ACS position has like the same feeling.

I've been eyeing that Smoke rod also. And I, too, put the trigger between my ring and pinky fingers while palming the reel (sometimes anyway, I actually have several grips I change between depending on feel, rod position, and hand fatigue level during the day). To me, on the ACS seat, the way the trigger looks it's like it's too thick to be comfortable, but today in the store I held several and didn't think so at all. They had no reels on them though. I was just holding the rod with it positioned between my fingers, which is when I'd most notice it if it was actually too thick. I've passed on rods in the past without ever holding them due to seeing that seat. Now I'm wondering if I'd like one. But I definitely know I like the ECS already.

Before I make a purchase I'd definitely saddle a reel on the rod to see how it feels. I'm looking for a jigging rod and possibly a cranking rod too. Probably going to get one or the other within the next month (anniversary gift) if I don't get a shakyhead spinning rod instead.

I like the good ol ECS the best for sure, and I definitely agree with you on the ACS. Not uncomfortable, and just takes a while to get used to if you've been fishing with an ECS all day.

I really like the ACS reel seat, but I really only like it for tip-down techniques. If i'm wormin' or jigging, pitching, etc where my tip will be up, i'll take the ECS all day.

Also I hate those painted reel seats. The clear coat is just terrible because once my hands get sweaty, the grips get sorta sticky ? They get a nasty feel to them though.

I kinda like fully exposed reel seats too, but i think I would only use them for uuber light rods, light fishing techniques.

I don't care for the ACS seat. It's too small for me. The ECS is a better fit for my hands.

I hold mine with all fingers in front of the trigger, with forefinger and thumb lightly gripping the line.

My all time favorite reel seat is the one Daiwa installs on their Light & Tough rods. I still have two L&T rods in my quiver, and after fishing with one of them for a couple of hours, all other reel seats just feel wrong.

I'm ruling out the ACS. I went today again to look at them. Held the Smoke rod in hand and while it's not uncomfortable, it doesn't feel right and I don't think I should have to just get used to something in order to use it. It should feel right as soon as I pick it up. ECS all the way. Jury is still out on the split reel seats. I'm waiting on the new Shimano rods to come out before making any decisions.

I like both the ACS and ECS. My Legend extremes have the former and my LTB the latter. To tell the truth I don't even notice the difference in them anymore they both feel right.

I don't even have big hands or fingers and the ACS feels small and confined to me. Love the ECS.

The ACS gets a bad rap but I think they are pretty comfortable. I also hold the rod with my pinky behind the trigger and like the ACS. If I hold the rod with all fingers in front of the trigger (fishing very light weightless plastics to keep a finger on the line) the ECS feels better. This is one thing I wish manufacturers offered more variety in just like split/full grips.

I'm sure it would be costly for them to set up a lot of different configurations of reel seats and handle styles for the same blank, but I'd like to see something like that too. Split grip or full, foregrip or not. I guess that's why we have custom rod makers. Everybody likes something different.

I really haven't had a problem with my reel seats before. The ones I have are ECS though. Then again I only put one finger past the trigger so nothing feels very uncomfortable.

the most comfortable seats made are on the Steez rods, I love the seats that are on the Daiwa L&T rods and also the seats on the S rods are very comfortable... as far as ECS and ACS I like both, I have big hands and both are a fine seat, I love the looks of the ACS and if I have a custom built it will always have a ACS on it because they look sexy.

I agree the ACS is agressive and sharp looking while the ECS is sort of plain. But it's like a smooth latte in my opinion, while you can have all the exotic flavors you want, nothing beats plain ole vanilla. The ECS is so comfortable to me while the ACS just feels ok only.

I see a trend here. Where the angler holds the rod/reel with the trigger between the third and pinky fingers, they tend to like the ACS reel seat. Otherwise, no. I fall into the former and love the ACS reel seat. Holding the rod/reel as I do provides the best balance for me. Thus, the preference for ACS. All of my custom rods have been built with ACS reel seats.

You know also that you can use the ACS just like a normal seat ECS?? "vanilla" I dont know all the correct terms but yeah I couyld use it like my other casting rod that is regular seat with index finger in front of trigger only thumb on reel. So to me the ACS is two seats-in-one. You dont make contact with the exposed blank though. Did you try it this way?
