Troutfisher Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Hello all! What does everyone think of the national championship caliber teams this year? Obviously it is way too early to make predictions, but it has been interesting seeing how some of the greats have been doing. Oregon looked terrible against LSU, TCU got hit by Baylor, and my favorite team (WVU) had a moderate win. In Morgantown there is quite a lead up to the big game against LSU in a few weeks. What do you all think about a potential championship team - who is looking good and who's not? Thanks! TF Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 Too early to tell but LSU will tell you what your Mountaineers are made of. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 It is a marathon and not a sprint, so the first three or four weeks of the season will separate the contenders from the pretenders. Hope you can go to the LSU/WVU game as the LSU fans are great. Just walk by and smile and ask them what they are cooking. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ASK WHAT IS IN THE CUISINE. JUST EAT IT AND SMILE. LSU is the only school where their fans practice tailgating to make it an art!!!! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 LSU will have a tough challenge at the end of the year, as always!! Jeff Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 To be a national championship caliber team one must have a solid offense that does not turn the ball over, a strong run/pass defense and special teams! LSU appears for the moment to have all 3 Boise State once again showed they have the offense but not the defense, Georgia has been at the bottom of the SEC for quite some time now. Oklahoma & Alabama showed me nothing while hiding behind Tulsa & Kent State. Auburn showed me they are an “also ran” team as they were before last year. TCU & Baylor are typical Big 12 all offense, no defense! Wait until mid season & then have this discussion again. 1 Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 Alabama hiding? Come on, we open up against Clemson and VT the last couple seasons and are schedule to open up against VT again next year. This is most quality team LSU open up to in recent memory... And to get back on topic, look at Alabama defense. Let just hope the offense get to more consistent level as season progress before it's too late. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 Under Les Miles 2011 they opened with Oregon 2010 they opened with North Carolina 2009 they opened with Washington 2008 they opened with Appalachian State 2007 they opened with Mississippi State 2006 they opened with Louisiana – Lafayette 2005 they opened with Arizona State Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 Catt, those LSU opening games would be a tougher schedule than Bamasux plays today. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 7, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 7, 2011 Not that I am ready to crown them national champs, but the Gators look a lot better than they did last year and should be in the mix by the end of the season. Quote

lynyrdsky1 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 LSU did great but their offense didn't look good. As always their defense carried them. They need to switch out Lee and put in the new guy (said new guy cause I don't know how to correctly spell his name. 1 Quote
lsufan334 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Lee did his job. He managed the game plan and did what was needed of him. did he have 300 yds and 3td? no he didn't. But then again he didnt have to. He had some receivers drop what are usually easy catches which would have helped his stats. Biggest stat: No interceptions!!!. That is what LSU needs to succeed and he can perform when needed. He proved that last year. 1 Quote
shootermcbob Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Way too early to tell WHO it may be yet, but it is very likely that we know WHERE the team will come from....the SEC. Being an Ohio State fan, it is painful to admit, but right now, and for the last several years, the SEC teams are clearly better than the rest of the country. THe only thing that may hurt the SEC teams is the league is so competitive, that they could actually beat each other over the course of the season and lose out on a title game to ... say an undefeated Wisconsin team and an undefeated Stanford team or some scenario like that. From what I have seen so far, I am putting LSU at the front of the line. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 9, 2011 Super User Posted September 9, 2011 I love the way everyone discounts LSU’s offense after the put up 33 points on the Ducks. Total yards: Oregon 335 - LSU 273 70 of Oregon's yards came on the last drive, that started with 2:46 on the clock and you were down 20 points. LSU was strictly in prevent defense the entire drive and was playing many back ups. It was garbage time. We were letting you march down field, we were just avoiding the big play. We made you run the clock. Last time I checked 273 > 265 Oregon had 4 turnovers to LSU’s 3 We want Boise State next to shut that mouth permintally Quote
