Morelures Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I catch a ton of fish on the Rebel Pop R and I know I should change the hooks on it, but I have been lucky and never had a problem until I lost a big one the other day on it... I was just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions on a good hook for this bait. I am looking for someone who actually throws the Pop R and has field tested it. (Im looking to change the hooks out and still keep the feather) Thanks! Quote
bassin is addicting Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 i swappewd them out for Owner #6 dressed trail hook and Owner stinger #6 on the other... very pleased with hook-up... Quote
Morelures Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 Thanks I will check them out. Do you use a baitcaster or spinning rod when fishing them? I have been using a spinning rod with 20lb braid 6lb diameter. I’m more accurate with the a baitcaster but I like the real long cast's i get out of the spinning rod. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 Poppers are my choice of top water baits. At hook replacement I like to go 1 step larger than original and I prefer 4x, brand is not a paramount concern. Same goes if I need to replace hooks on a jerkbait or spoon, I really like a mirror top dog, I mainly use it in saltwater but is just as effective on LMB, comes with good hooks too. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 i use a spinning rod with my pop-r for a long cast also. right now i've got McCoy 8lb copolymer on it... i picked that up on sale on TW a while back and really like it. it has been a good all around line for me. it may not be the best for that application....but i also use that rod for multiple set-ups... i don't have the luxury of having specific set-ups for every application.
