Cabela's Guidewear

I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this topic. Anyway, I was checking out the cabelas bargain cave and saw their guidewear rain suits are on clearance. I can get the whole suit for for less than $300 it seems like a pretty good deal to me. I was also looking at the BPS 100 mph suit which has a removable liner, but I didn't see one for the cabela's suit. Do they have one? I know they are both some of the best raingear you can buy but how about keeping you warm? Since I will mainly be using it for winter fishing at dale hollow. I'm hoping it will be light enough to use all year long if need be though. What do you think?

The guide wear is pretty underwhelming in terms of performance. It leaks at the seams, I've had four pair do the exact same thing. The other thing I don't like about it is the way the jacket and hood is cut, it seriously restricts your vision when you are driving. The BPS 100MPH suit is what I wear now, and love it. It doesn't leak, it breathes well, and it is tough as nails. You can wear it in summer with minimal issue in terms of heat.

They must be discontinuing this line for something new. I have a set of of the uninsulated gear that I've worn for years. It is great stuff for all but the hottest weather IMO. For really cold weather the insulated version might be a little better, but I just add an extra layer or two underneath and I'm good to go. It is just a bit much for most summer use, although it is great in a thunderstorm. At full price it is a great deal. At that price it is a no brainer.

EDIT: I just read the above review. I have worn mine in all weather and have never had one leaking seam.

This is the first time I have ever read or heard criticism of Guidewear.

Everyone I know loves this brand. I'm wearing mine in my avatar. I think

it's about 10 years old now, but looks brand new. I have never had an

issue and HIGHLY recommend the suit.

I had never heard any negative reviews on the guidewear either. For the price I don't think I could really go wrong. They are actually having a special today if you spend at least $150 you get an extra $20 off and they give you a free Cabelas advanced angler tackle bag ($60). So I went ahead and ordered the un-insulated suit and all for about $250.

I think you will be happy with the Guidewear, esp with that deal. If not Cabelas has great customer service...

I am another vote for the guidewear and love it. I have also never had a single drop or leak of any type in mine. One thing I will add is if it is available buy the parka not the jacket. It just fits better overall.

I'm sort of shocked right now, really. I had the exact same problem with four pair of bibs. It must have something to do with my anatomy, or habits; if all you guys say you've never had an issue, it makes me question what the problem really was/is.

I think it is interesting. I would like to know what the deal is/was also. It is hard to imagine getting four bad bibs unless they were all part of the same lot? I have worn mine for all sorts of physical activities over maybe 10 years without a failure of any kind. I do like the ability to add a liner to the BPS gear, though as an old fat guy being too cold is rarely an issue.

Love my Guidewear too. Been wearing it a long time. First set I had was 6 years old and some of the lining was tearing in the jacket and bibs. Contacted Cabelas and sent it back to them. They gave me credit for the majority of the purchase price on a new set. It's kind of heavy for summer time but I've never gotten wet in it.

Does Cabela's have a lifetime warranty or just great customer service? Hopefully I won't have any problems with it but just in case.

I've had a pair for probably 6 or 7 years now and have had no problems with it. I'm really rough on my pair and despite them being a little tighter than they used to be for some reason they still keep me warm in dry in some of the worst weather of the year. They are expensive but to stay warm and dry they are worth it.

They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I don't think that means they will credit something that is 20 years old and worn completely out as defective, but based on some of the returned items in the bargain cave at cabelas, it is clear they take care of their customers.

My personal experience, I had a parka/bib insulated set oof hunting wear. after wearing it for 3 years, I started getting wet around my right shoulder. I emailed ccabelas, told them I didnt think they should be leaking as I only wore them while hunting...which was maybe 15 times a year, and I carried them to the stand so I wasnt wading thru briars and such. They emailed me back the same day and told me I could exchange or return them.

I've been strongly considering picking up some guidewear or one of the new Frabillsuit. There isn't a ton of info but I've heard nothing but good comments about Frabill's new suit (http://stormsuit.frabill.com/). Even from several people that replaced their guidewear with it, anyone happen to own one of these?

I just order the whole suit also. Just about $250 for the entire set plus a free tackle bag. That's an awesome deal for Gore Tex rainwear. This thread popped up at a perfect time for me, I've been needing a new set and waiting for a year end sale.

Well the free tackle bag ripped the first time I used it and the rain gear went down in price a week after I got it. So I called cabelas today to see what they would do about it. They are sending me a new bag and refunding me $80 for the difference in price. They just got themselves a lifetime customer... Too bad they don't have a location in nashville.
