Super User clayton86 Posted September 5, 2011 Super User Posted September 5, 2011 As it says has the fall bite started yet I kinda think it has the 1 smallmouth I caught yesterday had a belly full like it was spawning again but it was squishy with minnows plus it hit a fluke and all the pike were fat as well. BassThumb Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Not for me. I'm finding largemouth in their summer spots even thought it has started dropping into the high 40's at night. It won't take long with night temps like that for the fish to begin gorging. It's nice to see some of the scummy weeds starting to recede and die back. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted September 5, 2011 Super User Posted September 5, 2011 Hmmmm - I was fishing two days ago in 92 air temp and 88 water temp. Started cooling down a bit yesterday however. Anyway, no fall here yet... Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 5, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 5, 2011 I don't know the water temp I fish from the bank but it feels cool and the pike are going nuts and they prefur colder waters its only 61 out today nights have been cold to I can't seem to find bass though there were some yesterday but dinks that didn't even hit. Super User webertime Posted September 5, 2011 Super User Posted September 5, 2011 It is over here. Irene knocked Champlain's Temp from 68 to 54 (in 20 fow). The Smallmouths are FAT and super aggressive. Saturday I lost a HUGE Smallie, the guy I was partnered with has been fishing Champlain for years and said it was an easy 6+lbs. Spinnerbaits, Jerkbaits, and Rattle Traps are on the menu over here currently. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 5, 2011 Super User Posted September 5, 2011 (edited) Not yet...i waded the lake yesterday and the and the water still felt pretty warm. Today the temps dropped to 65 for a high and suppose to be in the low 70's for the rest of the week. *edit* I'll take that back now...the shallow river systems are hot,hot hot here.Same thing happened last fall just before they shut down for the winter. My problem is I don't know how long the fall bite lasts around here.Since it's gets colder faster up here.I went through a pack of *secret bait* in less than an hour....I didn't bring any more with me today.D'oh!!! My kid goes back to school tomorrow...I'm gonna go back when I drop him off at the bus stop. I don't have to be at work till 3pm....LOL Edited September 5, 2011 by grimlin Quote
j.bruno Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Yes for me it has, i have been catching Large mouth and Pickerel out the wazooo. Quote
Fat-G Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Water is surprisingly starting to cool down here. Caught 20 yesterday on a finesse jig. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 The weeds have really died back up here. We are getting our first frost tonight. I'm hitting it tomorrow so I guess I'll find out . . . . A-Jay Quote
Avid Angler FL Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 The best part of fall is the weeds dying off. Here in Florida, the weeds get so dense that weedless baits and Texas Rigs pull in forests of weeds. Quote
