Vickers Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I usually have 8 rods on my deck, all B/C... I do have 2 spinners in the rod box at all times, but I bet I havent used one in 2-3 years... Quote
Pa Angler Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I use spinning gear as my rod mounted wireless trolling motor remote works better on a spinning rod. Pa Angler Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 I carry 18 setups and 11 are spinning. They are used for plastics and light weight jigs and small tops and cranks. I use the 7 bc reels of the heavier baits. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted September 8, 2011 Super User Posted September 8, 2011 Both have their place. 90% of the time if I'm on my boat, I use a baitcaster. But if I'm fishing trees or bushes and the bass seem to be holding tight to the inside, I switch to my spinning outfitso I can more easily get my jig or worm to fall straight down (rather than swinging pendulum-style toward the boat). If I'm wading a river for smallmouth with light spinners or jigs, etc, I find a spinning rod/reel with mono irreplaceable. Quote
breezy Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I use a casting reel probably 90% or more of my time fishing. I do own a couple nice spinning rods but even if I have it rigged up and ready to go in the boat I barely use it. Fishing with a casting reel is more enjoyable to me and as my rod/reel collection has grown there are very few things I can't fish on a casting rod. The only lures I fish on a spinning rod are dropshot (like the ease of vertical fall a spinning reel provides) and anything too light for my Sol to cast (usually 1/8oz or under). This does change in very cold winter temps however. If it's cold enough outside that I'm dressed in several layers of thick clothing and gloves it's much easier to use a spinning reel. I can cast a spinning reel wearing gloves with little to no loss of accuracy/distance...on a casting reel I have a mess or freezing fingers after I rip the gloves off Quote
GrippinLips Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 I mainly use my bait caster, But if it's really windy, ill switch to the spinning gear. Quote
s13john Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 i have both but i have a baitcaster that can do anything that a spinning reel can do. neverless i think a spinning reel has its time and place, plus it can be really fun to catch nice fish on a spinning reel with light line and the drag screaming always good times. fishinflip415 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I use both. Spinning for my finesse stuff. I only own 2 spinning combos. But One is always the boat. Quote
Jim_M Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Just took the sport up earlier this year. Been fishing A LOT. And the more I do the more I use the BC. Something over 95% of the time. Quote
scbassin Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I fish on Santee Cooper in usually 15' or less. the smallest line I use is 10 lb Yo Zuri so it's bait casting for me. You would be surprised on how far you can cast light baits on some of the Japanese Shimano reels. I do fish a lot of plastics weightless. Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I have 2 spinning combos - 1 medium power that is always rigger with a follow up bait/senko, and 1 ultralight for panfishing. Truth be told, Because I have been using soft plastics much more this year, I have not used my spinning reel all that much since I have been using my baitcasters to throw soft plastics. I also simply love fishing with a baitcaster that much more than spinning gear. I find them more comfortable too. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Both! Spinning mostly for weightless plastics Quote
