Braid + Fluoro Leader With Crankbaits

I'm currently usng 15lb Fluoro on my crankbait outfit, but i'm not a fan of it's stiffness or its memory problems when it comes to casting. I was wondering what would happen if i spooled up some braid and attached a 6 foot fluoro leader. Do you guys think i'd have problems ripping the hooks out due to the low stretch of braid? I'm wondering if the 6 foot fluoro leader and my glass rod will have enough give.

It would depend on the action of the rod you are using. If it's too stiff, then yes, you'll tear out hooks. Braid has no stretch. Fluoro has some, but not as much (supposedly) as mono. You might find you'll be better off with a mono leader instead. You'll just have to try out different scenarios for yourself.

I think it would be fine. Instead of setting the hooks hard just do a slow sweep as if you are sweeping the floor. Adjust ur fishing, not your gear if you wanna save some money

I fish with 30lb braid and a 12lb flouro leader on my rods, and I've had no trouble with fishing cranks, top water, or plastics. And I set the hook real strong like. So I think you should be good.

First off, I think 15lb fluoro is to much for a crankbait rod. Stiffness depends on the fluoro you're using. Something like berkly 100% is pretty stiff, and IMO better suited for bottom contact baits. If you switch to 12lb Seagaur InvizX, I think you're memory problem will go away, and it'll also get you cranks deeper then the 15lb. Very good line for crankbaits, IMO!

As for braid on a crankin rod, I think that unless you got a spaghetti rod, you'll end up loosing a lot of fish due to the zero stretch.

I crank with straight braid (45lb test, just because I use that rod the most), rod action is Medium Heavy, I've never lost a fish due to pulling too hard. Just have to set the hook differently. Give it a nice sweep to the side and you'll do fine.

Thanks for all your replies! I'll definately take all your suggestions into account. I'm still working on my hook sets when it comes to crankbaits. Sometimes my instincts kick in and i set it too hard. I'll also give the invisX a try. It and bass pro shops fluoro are two brands of fluoro i havent tried yet and they're both next on my list.
