Super User Root beer Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 So, what was everyone's impression on week one? Alabama's defense look solid against an inferior opponent. A.J. McCarron looks better throwing the ball in game situation than Sims. One of McCarron's interception went through the hand of the receiver, so that forgivable. However, 5 total turnovers bugged me. That cannot happen next week on the road at Penn State... The Baylor and TCU game was crazy, and I swear Auburn has more luck than any team I had ever come across except for LSU...Maybe more than LSU... Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 I think the last three minutes of my tigers game was the best I've seen in a while. It's the luck of the tiger homie. War ____ Eagle! I'm still in awe that we actually won that game. Our offensive line was horrid. But our qb looks to be very promising. Quote
Quillback Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 LSU convincingly beat #3 Oregon, Alabama and Oklahoma beat 2nd rate teams. IMO, LSU should be ranked #1 once the new ratings come out. Disclaimer: I am NOT an LSU fan. Pig sooooieee! Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 Oregon quacks up in Dallas 40 – 27! Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 4, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 4, 2011 I didn't see the entire LSU/Oregon game, but in first half it looks like LSU was matching Oregon's speed stride for stride, they just lacked an offensive game. All sudden late in 2nd half Oregon's defense couldn't push LSU's offensive line around....It got ugly for Oregon after that. I just might be a believer that Kellen Moore is the best QB in college football today...Those passes were deadly accurate... Quote
Helluva_Engineer Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Tech took a bad team behind the woodshed and put up 360 some odd passing yards with our first quarter passing yards outpacing our season high for a game last year. It's nice being #1 in passing efficiency in the NCAA if only for a week. A lot of young talent that makes it exciting, but I'm nervous about the rest of the year. UGA lost like it should have. Boise was clearly the better team and showed why they were ranked #5. UGA was ranked #19 after a 6-7 season and losing the top 2 WRs and RB?!?? Don't understand that one. Auburn got lucky...really lucky... I was rooting for my buddy's younger brother, Connor, up at USC. The ole ball coach thinks very highly of him, but the team just seems to fall apart with him in at QB and they gel around Garcia. I don't get it, but I'm biased so that might be in play. Quote

Sims quarter backing just wasn't as good as McCarron's. To many simple mistakes were made, holding onto the ball long then you should, throwing behind the receiver on a short pass, etc. Bama's Deference is looking pretty solid, hopefully that'll hold through to the Penn State game. Disclaimer: I am NOT an LSU fan. Pig sooooieee! I think you're jumping the gun a bit. LSU's defense looked good, but their offense is questionable at best. Alabama and Oklahoma will have the opportunity to prove or disprove themselves in the next two weeks when they go on the road to face Penn State and Florida State, respectively. Provided that they stay unbeaten, LSU's victory over Oregon should go a long way towards helping them jump the others when the BCS rankings are released next month. Quote
shootermcbob Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 LSU's defense was the story of the weekend, IMO. They were powerful, fast, and physical. Even though they didn't sack Oregon QB Thomas...he was under pressure all night. Boise also looked really good, but the question is..."How good is Georgia"? Other than Baylor vs. TCU, most of the other weekend games were "cupcake" games which really dont' tell a bunch about teams....Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, among others ran roughshod over lesser teams. One final note, can someone please do something about that idiot Mark May and his sidekick Dr. Lou on espn??? I would MUCH rather watch a silent screen w/ the highlights and scores than listen to those two babble on and argue. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 My hogs looked good! Kellen Moore...wow! Can't wait for Bama on sept 24th..... Ole miss...sucks almost as bad as the o-line AND d-line of Auburn... WOOOOOO PIG SOIEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 I really thought LSU would have a tougher time with Oregon's 'speed' than they did but in the end they laid the smack on the quack. Georgia seems to be missing a few key parts, as they are every year and I expect the Mark Richt haters will be out in full force from now until he's replaced. I was pulling hard for Utah St yesterday at Auburn but as someone said earlier, they mysteriously had a golden horseshoe fall out of their *** in the last 3 minutes. I could't believe that happened. The Baylor / TCU game was epic. It was hard to flip to another channel without someone scoring. All in all, it was a good weekend because Virginia Tech slapped Appalachian St. (thank goodness). Whew! Super User Catt Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 No. 1 Oklahoma rolls against Tulsa, home streak now 37… Inspired Alabama easily wins opener against Kent State… WHOO-HOO bet y’all fired up? Defenses win championships, y’all seen LSUs in action against a supposedly fast Oregon offense. 2003 BCS National Championship Game was played in the Louisiana Superdome, winners LSU 4 years later! 2007 BCS National Championship Game was played in the Louisiana Superdome, winners LSU 4 years later! 2011 BCS National Championship Game will be played in the Louisiana Superdome Just saying Quote

SDoolittle Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 While we're on the subject of Tulsa and schedules, I bet you won't find a tougher non-conference schedule than TU's. Quote

BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 5, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 5, 2011 UF and USF both looked good this weekend. The Bulls put it to ND and even though FAU is not a great team, the Muschamp/Weis Gators sure look like offense is not going to problem. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 5, 2011 Super User Posted September 5, 2011 LSU’s offence had the ball 13 times, scored 6 times, & the 13th was just to kneel the ball with 0.12 on the clock, so in reality LSU scored every other time they had the ball. Yea I know they only had 273 yards of total offence but the only statistic that matters is the score board the rest is just interesting information. Bird dog September 24th West Virginia will get their shot & you will see how “questionable” our offence is, you better hope Marshall & Norfolk State can prepare you for our speed & power. shootermcbob, all I’m saying is the last 2 times the BCS National Championship Game was played in the Louisiana Superdome LSU was there. Just razzing you a bit. If LSU makes it to the title game, they do have a HUGE advantage with it being played in the Superdome...basically a home game for them. I can't, at this point, see any team going in there and beating them in that environment. I don't understand where all the "statistics" people are coming from...LSU plays GREAT defense, has GREAT special teams, and is LOADED with NFL caliber athletes. They normally run the ball very well, and are well coached. People don't give Les Miles enough credit for being one of the top five coaches in America, IMO. He wins, and recruits top 10 classes every year. Quote

Catt, I live in WV, but I am a transplanted Sooner. I couldn't care less who wins that game. But I stand by my statement that LSU's offense is questionable. Their defense and special teams won that game by forcing turnovers and providing the offense with short field situations. Quote
royal0014 Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 All I can say is ROLL TIDE! Ought to be an interesting season... And, Auburn better not make a habit of waiting until the end to pull a rabbit out of their butts Quote
SDoolittle Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Did anybody watch the Maryland vs Miami game? Were those not the ugliest uniforms you've ever seen? Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 Bird Dog, Oregon wins the Uglest Uniform Contest for week one. The Ducks' uniforms were hideous. Oklahoma and Bamasux had "warm up" games and did not prove anything. As stated above, their first tests are this week. I predict a close win at FSU and Bamasux to prevail in Happy Valley. General Lee was on target with his passes. LSU receivers have to concentrate on catching the ball. Defense seems solid for now but it is a long season against some quality opponents. Boisie State looked good against the hapless Bulldogs. And Georgia gets second place in the ugliest uniform contest for week one by wearing those all red uniforms to insult Boisie's all blue uniforms. Notre Dame gave the game away; Toolame won their opener; Tennessee looked good against a minor opponent; Kentucky came back to clobber Western Kentucky; VATech looked like mid-season form; Southern Cal almost lost their opener; and Virginia finally won their opener by defeating those William Mary Indians. With week two we will start to see the best teams rise to the top. Remember LSU's new slogan...."Beware of the Foot" Quote
