Bassfisherman94 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I recently found a Mann's Baby 1- that has a lot of paint knicked off of it and needs a new paint job. Wondering what kind of paints I can use that will stay on the lure fairly well and are pretty cheap? Thanks! Quote
BobP Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Qboy, it would be great if we could go to Wally World, pick up a can of cheap spray paint, shoot it on a crankbait and expect it to perform like a factory finish. But that's not gonna happen. If you want a crankbait repaint to look good and last, you have to remove any oxidized or chipped paint, paint the crankbait, then coat it with a very durable topcoat. That doesn't seem to be what you're looking for, so it's hard to recommend a quick fix. The reality is a Baby 1- is cheap enough that the cost of materials to repaint one cost more than a new bait. So unless you want to get into crankbait repainting as a hobby, I say use the lure "as is". 1 Quote
NateFollmer Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Listen to Bob, he knows his stuff! If you want a cheap fix that won't last very long, you can hand paint it with those craft paints. Dip or paint on a clear coat then... I doubt it would last more than 5 or so fish, so don't expect it to be a permanent fix, but it is fun! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 12, 2011 Super User Posted September 12, 2011 The fish doesn't care if it's chipped , it would be a lot more sensible just to use it the way it is. Quote
