WdyCrankbait Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 So, I have not been fishing so much lately. I am studying to get my PE (Professional Engineer license) and I walked into a local fishing store in Ashland VA. Well, lets just say I was temped to buy everything in the store fishing related. I wanted to get a new spinning reel, found a couple of nice rods, of course you can never have enough senkos, etc. Wow, I dont know if I was more conscious of what I wanted or needed. Bait Monkey is the devil! I love fishing, but bait monkey almost put me in the poor house. Maybe it was the sudden exposure to all the tackle my senses could not handle. Anyone else have similar issues? Quote
Fat-G Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Nope, haven't bought a bass lure in a month and a half. Quote

I have bunches of cranks (lipped and lipless) and jerkbaits that just don't get used, along with tons of tubes and soft plastics I bought thinking that I'd like them...but I just don't for one reason or another. Might be time to dig out the digital camera and start taking pics. Quote

Super User skunked_again Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 Ive found buying gear doesnt take the place of fishing any longer. Id rather fish for an hour myself. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 6, 2011 Super User Posted September 6, 2011 I've got all the fishing equipment I'll ever need but I'll probably buy alot more before I croak. Quote
northern basser Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 The bait monkey has a special place on my back Just when I think I have all the rods and reels I need I find an application for another one. As for lures, you can never have enough. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 About my earliest recollections of my addiction was when I was in middle school. One of the local towns (of no more than 600 residents) had a small grocery store where, if we ran out of milk or bread, I would accompany my mom to resupply those items before going to the "big city" for our regular shopping later in the month. Near the counter of this store and amongst the aptly named impulse items-calling to me like a siren-was a fairly modest rack of fishing lures for sale- Yellowing cards of Mepps Aglia's, a few Creme worms, and some Beetle Spins. A few Rebel Pop R's and Bomber baits. I think I remember a couple packages of Manns Jelly worms and some Tube Worms. Not much else. Money was scarce then but sometimes, if I'd made some money mowing lawns or walking beans, I would purchase something. On the car ride home I would unwrap it and handle it like a woman might fondle a string of pearls. In those days the bait monkey wasn't much larger than a young chimp but he tugged insistently on my shirt sleeve even then. Little did I know he would follow me to college and eventually grow to the dimensions and appetite of King Kong. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 7, 2011 Super User Posted September 7, 2011 Don't need a thing, but there a couple of items I want to buy and some items I don't care for and want to replace. Don't like my star stellar lite 25lb rod has a soron 60 on it, replace my star handicraft for my Avet, good rod, just want a little stronger one. 9 wt and and a new reel, one of the guys here is a designer for Tibor, may i can get a deal. I've bought 3 really nice outfits this year so I'll probably just step back. Quote
TheBassMan79 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I just started fishing about 4 months ago at a serious level. Bought myself a Lews rod and reel yesterday and I am biased towards the Northland fishing tackle company. Bought about $150 dollars worth of their lures so far. Everything from Mimic Minnows, to Fire Ball jigs and their spinner bait collection along with Jawbreaker spoons. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 14, 2011 Super User Posted September 14, 2011 Wdycrankbait what's up? Powell Rods. BOP!!! Quote
