joshholmes Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 now i was wonderfing which of these 3 has the best plastic formula. im not talking about the baits themselves, just the plastic. i want toknow which has the best combination overall of softness, salt and durability EDIT: and also scent Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 3, 2011 Super User Posted September 3, 2011 For durability the SK 3x worms can't be beat. I have caught dozens of fish on 1 worm drop shotting before they finally rip off, they float too, which makes them stand up on a shaky head or out on a drop shot hook. The 3x stuff is unscented so I rub some mega strike on them, I really like these worms, I have not tried the jig trailers. The SK Perfect plastic are not durable at all, but they catch fish, they are a lot softer than Zoom stuff, I have replaced most of my zoom jig trailers with the KVD trailers, and I have been using the ocho's as a replacement for Yum dingers with good results. My favorite of that line up is the Caffine shad, it's like a fluke/senko combo. The KVD worms are pretty good too. I could take or leave the rodent, the game hawg is not in my rotation. The Perfect Plastics are coffee scented so I don't put any thing else on them. Not much of a rage tail guy, I like Paca Craws better. I like the toads and shad though, and will try the thumper some day. Quote
joshholmes Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 well out of all the perfect plastics ive only used the caffeine shad, but i know a secret to make a fluke wiggle like a senko so i dont use it often. i like the space monkey, rage toad and anaconda for rage tail. im going to try more of the 3x elaztech this year soon Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted September 3, 2011 Super User Posted September 3, 2011 The only thing I dislike about the 3x is that they're tough to get a hook through. I've had a lot of times that I'll set the hook on a fish, get them all the way to the boat only to have them open their mouth and be gone. When you look at the bait, the hook hasn't penetrated the plastic. Quote
brushhoggin Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 im with you hooligan, the 3x worms are stubborn. perfect plastics game hawgs have been full proof since i started using them. if i could buy in bulk i would get a pallet of bama bug game hawgs. they are petroleum based so they slip and slide over, around and through weeds and grass like a boss. perfect plastic gets my vote. sucks though cause they just went up a dollar. Quillback Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 I'm not liking the Rodents, catch a bass or get a bite and one of the claws is gone. They get bites, but other beavers out there get bites also and are more durable. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 If durability is what you want just tie a rock to a hook and go fishing. If you want to catch fish hook a Rage Tail and go catching. Quote
Quillback Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Well rocks may work for you, but not so well for me. And I do quite well catching fish on other stuff than Ragetail. Seems to me a smart fisherman would want to use plastics that catch fish AND are durable. Quote

I believe we have now seen fishing soft plastics go full-circle. When plastics first came out, they were tough, they didn't move much but, they were durable. As fisherman, all we wanted was something softer, something with more action and something that catches more fish. Now that plastics are soft and have more action than a Friday night pair of beer-goggles, we as fisherman want durable again. Imo, it's not how durable a plastic is because loosing lures or needing another worm is part of fishing. What's most important is which plastic will up my odds of landing more "Quality" fish and Rage Tail does just that. That bag may have a few less baits or cost a dollar more but, if you are catching more fish on every trip, isn't it worth a couple less or a little more money for a particular bait. I'm sure there are a few fisherman that think RT is a gimmick or just another hype but the fact is, Rage Tail baits are the most engineered soft plastics on the market today. While you may be a little reluctant to jump on board and throw them because that 3dollar bag of something is cheaper, if RT wasn't heads, tails and profiles ahead of other brands, every other company wouldn't be doing their best to copy their designs or features. The short of it is yes, you can and will catch fish on other baits but, bass feed on Rage Tail! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 5, 2011 Global Moderator Posted September 5, 2011 The 3x stuff is great for durability and one of my go to baits when bluegills and sunfish are a problem. The Rodent has been a good producer but not sure if it's any better than another beaver bait. I've had success with most rage baits but something about a rage craw falling through weeds or brush seems to be almost irresistable at times. There may be baits that are more durable but I'd rather have to go buy more because I was catching fish then fish a bait that isn't getting as many bite because it lasts longer. Quote
Big-O Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I've often wished that there was a less expensive way to provide the intense packaging that I feel is required for my products, but I have refused to produce and package outside of the USA like many others do. Also I can't see myself relaxing on clam shell packaging and individual placement of each bait to avoid deformation issues. I fight the battle of cost everyday to hold the prices down and try to provide the BEST products possible! Big O www.ragetail.com 2 Quote
Quillback Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I'm not saying the Rodent doesn't work, but I've fished other beaver style baits that work just as well but are more durable. Fishing beavers to me is like fishing jigs, there's a lot of brands that will work. And I'm not knocking guys who fish the Rodent, if it works for you and you have confidence in it, you should fish it. Quote
