I am thinking of getting a GLX version to use for unweighted plastics and 3/8oz weighted plastics and 3/8oz and under jigs. Is the BCR853C the rod I am looking for?

I just got a MBR844C IMX but I don't think it's what I am looking for as far as using lighter weight jigs and plastics.

You're probably ok with the 844 on the 3/8 stuff but not in the sweet spot. The 853 is better choice for the light jigs. You can go even lighter for the unweighted plastics. I throw them on a M/F spinning rig. The plastics themselves vary in weight so your results depend somewhat on what actual bait you want to throw. A 5" Senko would probably be a match for the 853 where as a 4" zoom might be over powered by that rod.

I owned two of the 853 GLX's but sold them for the NRX series. The 853's are very nice worm/jig rods, but the 853 is a tad too light if you're going to be flipping jigs in HEAVY cover. If, not, then the 853 is perfect for your weighted baits that you mentioned.

That being said, if you're throwing Senkos then there is no better rod in the GLX that can compete with the BCR893 GLX. The 893 is THE supreme Senko rod and works very well with T-rig worm also. A bit to "tipsy" for jigs, but EXCELLENT for Senkos and T-rigs. I also owned 2 of the 893's but sold them for NRX"s too.

I agree with Bassn Blvd the rod you should really be looking at is the 893 no better senko rod out there that I have found. You will not ever notice the extra length. I too had the GLX's series rods and upgraded them to the NRX's. But I also use it for jigs I have no problems with jigs up to about 1/2 oz on them, it is my favorite deep water jig rod by far as long as I stay below that 1/2 oz range.

Bassn is dead on. 893 all the way.
