Super User tomustang Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 I got to thinking since reading the comments of my last thread here, whenever I'm out I don't see many couples fishing, when I usually see a couple the guys fishing and the girls reading a book. With me, my wife loves fishing as much as I do. So I'm wondering, how many of you get to share angling with your significant other? Quote
pitchinthejig Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 My wife fishes with me at times but my 4 Y/O little girl is ALWAYS on the boat with me, she LOVES bass fishing SO much.. I Tourney fish A LOT and if im Pre fishing or fun fishing she is on the boat with me the only time she isnt is come tourney day! She also LOVES when that big 250 Pro XS is WOT lol. Quote
Sfritr Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 My wife loves to fish. She actually has the 2011 boat record. So far. A 6.75lber caught on a senko. The funny thing is she prefers fishing with a BPS tourney baitcaster and a Zebco 33 spincast. She's outfished me so I can't poke fun at her. However, she fishes hard for 45 minutes and then catches some rays for a bit. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 Starts off just fun fishing, then ends up both of us playing in the water. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 My wife of 35+ years is my primary fishing partner. She doesn't like to run the motors but other than that she more than carries her weight. A few years ago she got tired of the slow speed of spincast reels and she made the change to baitcasters. She does a fine job with them , but hasn't quite mastered pitching yet. She catches her share of fish, including bigger ones. She is hard to get off the water at times; I am ready to leave and she wants to hit another spot or two. One of the many side benefits of a fishing wife is it is easier to justify additional tackle... Quote
endless Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Me and my wife is really hoping to get out more. We only been out once together this year and sadly I do hate it. I got her a nice combo and a bigger jonboat for us and only 1 time for us. Hopefully when son starts school me and her can fish together more often. I want some pics to post of her and her setting some PB's. My wife is eager to learn how to work the front trolling motor. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 When she wants to go. When she doesn't I call around for a guy. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 Nope. Have no desire to. I fish with my son, my dad, both, or alone. When I was young, it was may dad and grandpa. Women were never part of the equasion. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 To be honest my wife either was never taught or forgot how to have fun. She's the serious one..... I'm not. It balances out. Quote
bwillis Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 On the rare occasion that my wife decides to accompany me fishing, she will fish for 5-10 minutes, then lie back and tan or something. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 When we first got married and when prego with our first she loved to fish she was a smallie catching machine I said it was buy injection sense after noah was born she couldn't go fishing and catch a thing not even a cold. So now she's not as into it as befor she's gone a few times this year she caught her first and probably biggest crappie 2 months ago(17") she's more into bobber watching now which puts me to sleep or frustrates me on all the gut hooked sunfish she catchs. I'm just waiting for my boys to be old enough to really fish noah goes and throws rocks till I hook one and then he comes and fights it yelling "oh baby" when it gets close and splashes its quite cute but I have to teach him to hold the spinning reel right he doe it facing up like a baitcaster(wich he can use thatnk u much) or a closed face. Super User clayton86 Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 This just reminded me of a email another teacher sent me today the nitro boat commercial with the ejector seat for the nagging wife/gf but it seems we all have understanding women........... Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 I do. And It's The Best ! The competition is friendly by fierce. I've become very good with the net. A-Jay Quote

There are plenty of women out there that would make an ejector seat a welcome addition. My brother was killed in an accident years ago. His widow never could figure out why he would rather fish with me than her. The woman had to be talking all the time when on the boat- a few hours of that and I would have to eject her or kill myself... Quote
irnwrkr Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 My wife likes to fish too. It's just hard to get out when you have three kids. One of whom is a newborn. She would actually like to tourney fish she told me! Quote

tmier Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 A-jay, my girl is pretty jealous of that pic. She loves to use cheap lures and whoop my bass haha. She doesn't like fishing when the water gets over 75, probably because she sees how frustrated I get. But spring and fall we have a blast. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 3, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 3, 2011 My wife fishes a lot when the weather's right. Not to hot, not to cold, not to much wind. My 15 year old daughter fishes all the time and even fishes tournaments with me. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted September 3, 2011 Super User Posted September 3, 2011 My wife and I fish some together. She ALWAYS fishes with me when I fish for other than bass species. She fishes for bass with me about 4-6 times a year. We go to the river for trout about 3 times a year, and if it is panfish we are after, I better have a bucket of crickets for her too!! Sorry for the pic heavy, but I had to brag!! Jeff Quote
woodnut Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I do, mine love to fish and is getting pretty good at it. She has set two PB this year a 6 pound large mouth and a 4.3 pound smallmouth. Needless to say she is hooked. I know this will sound funny but I think I catch bigger fish with her in the boat. I don't feel the presure and can slow down and fish a little slower. Quote
Sfritr Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Here is a pic of my wifes PB. Caught in July at Patoka lake IN. She won't let me live it down either. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 3, 2011 Global Moderator Posted September 3, 2011 I like having my wife in the boat when I can talk her into going. She really wants to catch a new PB largemouth and has had a couple nices ones on but just can't seem to get them landed. I bought her a St.Croix Avid Pearl spinning rod and a Quantum Energy PT 10 reel for one of her Valentine's Day presents this year. I think her old combo was a major part of her loosing a couple of the big bass she hooked. Watching her drag stick and break off probably a 6 pounder at Table Rock a couple years ago was heartbreaking. Now she brags that her rod and reel costs more than almost all of mine! Quote
B-Dozer Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Do I fish with my significant other? No, I usually use lures, plastics, or live bait! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 3, 2011 Super User Posted September 3, 2011 No, not often. IDK why either, the times she does go I put her on fish. She just doesn't like it. She will come out and sit on the boat with me and have lunch, but as soon as I want to get back to fishing she bolts. I don't think she has fished in 3 or 4 years now. Oh well, she puts up with me bass fishing 100+ times a year, and fishing 8-10 tournaments on our local lake. Not to mention ice fishing in the winter, and all the money I spend on fishing stuff. Super User bassfisherjk Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 Yes,my wife of 26 years fishes with me from time to time and she always out fishes me.I wish she would go all the time. Quote
