Modern braid as explained by DVT are rounder and cause less abrassion than older braids, modern reels have more abrassion resistant line rollers and line guides than older reels, so, modern braid on a modern reel should be not a matter of worry.

the only braid used should be sufix 832!!!roflmao!!!aeriously with this braid i go down to 30 on a baitcaster with no digging in.i use 20 on spinning.

Why do you guys use braid on spinning tackle. I have 30 lbs on a shimano reel and if i have the drag as tight as possible, i can pull line out with little pressure, that was why i asked in the first place. i wanted to make sure i wasn't messing my reel up.

on a spinning reel your having this problem? if so you need to look into putting a mono backer on that braid, as the whole spool full sounds like its spinning around.

But to answer your question, braid is really nice for spinning gear, as it has next to no memory and has a low diameter per weight.

Did you wrap a piece of tape (such as electrician's tape) around the spool before spooling the braid? Or put some mono backing on first? Braid can slip otherwise.

EDIT: Seems I didn't type quite fast enough. :D

NGaHB. No, It is a baitcaster im having the issue with. I never thought of taping down the knot line. I might have to go back and do that. What size braid line would be recommend for spinning tackle?

got ya. the whole line could be slipping still, tape or mono backer should fix the issue. I use 30 lb power pro on my spinning gear for bass. I use some real tiny stuff for trout and pan fish, but the 30 seems to work well for bass. I usually use either mono or a co polymer for a leader.

rgr that NGaHB. How does braid work with drop shot and shaky head? can you feel the sensitive bites?

I cant claim to have any idea on drop shot, but as far as shaky head goes I felt like I was feelin em fart on the bait as compared to mono. it really helped with feeling little nibbles, get ready to swing at bream alot, and I also found that since the line floats it helps me see when a fish picks it up and doesn't transmit any thump to me.

I use outdated PP on all but 1 rig, I have Fins on that setup. I use nothing but spinning gear and 10# braid for freshwater. For the most part I fish saltwater, again it's spinning gear, 15# braid inshore and 20# braid offshore, I see no reason to fish heavier. I catch snook and tarpon up to 50# on 15# line, cobia, kingfish, amberjacks, sailfish and sharks up to 200# on 20# braid. Braid never slips on the reel, knots hold, and the line itself is like fishing with steel cable, it doesn't break. Not that I want to outlaw braid but it does give advantage to the fisherman.
