Anthony.E Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 So last night I went fishing. Got the boat loaded back up and headed home. Somewhere on the drive home I lost my transom saver. The hydraulics on my trim or INOP, so the motor gradually worked its way down, I'm sure the bumps sped up the process a bit. Anyway, get home...notice the motor is down, transom saver missing, Skeg on the ground. Purpose of this thread: My Skeg is completely flat on the bottom now. How will this affect my outboard motor? Is this a serious concern? Thanks you Quote

No its not that bad...I may have made it out a little worse than it is. The fin part of the skeg...is now flat on the bottom. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 There are many different types of skeg guards you can buy to repair/protect the skeg. I don't have any reccomendations though. Sorry. Quote
BassThumb Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 How much of the skeg is missing? An inch? Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 Is the bottom of the skeg after being dragged still below the lowest point of travel for the tips of the propeller blades? The primary purpose of the skeg, as I understand it is to protect the propeller. Compare it to an undamaged skeg on another motor. If it does need repair, Bass Pro Shop sells these. http://www.basspro.com/Skegshield-Skeg-Guard/product/10200068/-1553021?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 4, 2011 Super User Posted September 4, 2011 There are lots of guys around who repair motor oops. I just had my cavitation plate fixed from a submerged tree taking a chunk out of it. You can't tell it from new. Quote
