yournamehere Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 In my local lake the hot bait has been the 10" berkley worm. What size hook would you guys be using with this bait? Quote
yournamehere Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 Ok thanks...the 5/0 I have been using even looks small in the big bait.. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 3/0... But I have always used smaller hooks than the norm. Quote
Packard Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I'm the opposite, I caught my pb on a 4in senko with a 6/0 hook. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 I match my hook size to the bait size, not the fish. I have caught countless 20# and up fish on 1/4 oz jig heads, probably no more than a 1/0 hook, fly fisherman use even smaller hooks. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 2, 2011 Global Moderator Posted September 2, 2011 I use 4/0 EWG Gammies and don't have any problem hooking fish with them. Nothing wrong with using a bigger or smaller hook though, if it's working for you then go with it. Quote
hatrix Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I always kinda thought bigger hooks for bigger baits. I hate when I get a bite and go to set the hook and it rips my tail off or something cause the hook was not in it's mouth. Quote

If you fish long enough and pay close attention to exactly what the bite feels like, over time you may be able to tell weather the bass has the hook in its mouth or just the tail of the worm. It sounds strange but there are days where I can feel the difference and I wait to set the hook. Quote
