American competitors often put money over patriotism. Whether top American's would outfish competitors from other countries is a moot point, don't know until the top competitors actually compete.

A number of years some America professional golfers wanted to get paid for events like the Ryder cup. The Europeans seem to put the competition above that of the Americans, play as a team and are winning more often now. Same can be said for World Cup team play, Americans dominated for years, but no longer is the case, the USA hasn't won since 2000, Duval and Woods.

Why would a fishing competition be any different, there are good fisherman all over the world.

America has competed in this tournament for the last decade. I don't believe they were invited this year. Not sure why, but it could be because they've dominated it in the past.
