Super User clayton86 Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 Today is my first day back as a teachers aide starting another school year. Now I'm gonna be gone all year due to my upcomming deployment starting in dec pretty much but ill be gone every other week for training just about. Now I get a perfict attendance award and bonus if I don't miss any days iv gotton this every year sense iv started here. With this deployment ill be gone a lot but they can't count it against me and technicly I would get it again next sept though ill be deployed. Its $600 in my second paycheck. Now here's my dilema I also have 21 days of vacation and 21 days sick leave built up. I'm thinking bout just using them and going fishing/hunting and spending time with my 2 boys befor I'm gone for a year but doing so I loose my bonus. My wife says work(she's gready) I think I should take a day off here and there like Friday or mondays to take noah fishing he's 2 1/2 and loves to fish and balls his eyes out when I go to work or fishing without him so I think it would be a good way to spend time together befor I go. So do I take the time off or just work up till my deployment and just take the regular days off we get anyways being teachers. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 Take some time off, family is way way more important then money and work. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Take some time off, family is way way more important then money and work. Amen! Take the time. 600 dollars is worth the family time for that long. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 Screw work, fish, hunt, hang out with the family! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 Does your wife's opinion mean anything to you ? Just a thought. Quote
MuffinMan Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Take time with the family, Im 16 and I know how it feels to not have your father do fun stuff with you. I have to catch rides with friends/neighbors til i get my licensce next month because my dad wont take me. So your boys will appreciate you doing that for them Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted September 1, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 1, 2011 Yeah, we got to get out there. Just let me know when. I was just looking at my little days sheet I have 33 vac. days 2 personal and 32 sick days I could just stop working now lol Quote
hookingem Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 FOE Family Over Everything...... Screw a 600 dollar paycheck. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 1, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 1, 2011 I don't look at it as a 600 dollar paycheck more as a revo mgx and villan rod or some other thing the bait monkey tries to get me to buy. This years bonus is getting me new scent lock camo and new arrows. At the same time though I will be in afghanistan when I get it and what's 600 bucks to the pay I'm getting there I'm just gonna take my boys fishing well noah because jacks 1 month old today no fishing yet. Super User Lund Explorer Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 Take the time off and spend it with your son. Take along a camera and get some good shots that you can take with you. Send a copy of a few them to your son on a regular basis while you are gone. Money? You're going to be in Afghanistan for a year, so what are you going to buy? Put $25 from each paycheck into a savings account and you'll have that $600 by the time you get home. Bottom line is that your son is only going to be this age once, and it's time that you both need before you go. As a matter of fact, you should probably take some time off when you get back home to spend with him again. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 I would spend the time with my kids without a second thought. The time you have with them now is time you will look back on for the rest of your life. Money will come and go. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 Take the time, homie. From the time my son was 3 weeks old until he was 1yr 4months old, I only saw him on weekends and holidays. We were working between 5 to 6 twelve hour days a week over the course of that time. He was asleep when I left for work at 5am and asleep when I got home at 7pm. I missed out on dang near the entire first year and a half of his life, because of work. I would gladly give the money back if I could get that time back with him. Son your gonna be gone for over a year. You best enjoy the Heck outta the time you have with them, before you leave. At least I was able to watch him sleep after I got home. Heck I'll make you a deal. You take the time off, and ill give you the 600 when you get back. Money ain't everything. Your gonna go fight for me, this country, and everyone on this board. It's the least I can do to, say thanks. Now get them boys out there and catch some fish, son. 2 Quote

I have a brother in law who is over there now and scheduled to be home in October. I know how much his three boys miss him. Thanks for your service, stay low and come home safe!! Cliff Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 2, 2011 Super User Posted September 2, 2011 Take the time off - and here's a thought . . . Perhaps you could take 1/2 the time before you go and the other 1/2 when you get back. This will give you time to re-acquaint yourself with your family before you have to go back to work. Stay Safe and Thank you. A-Jay Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 2, 2011 I'm not coming back to this place when I get back I'm gonna get into either law enforcment or reclass to be a chopper mechanic and apply for agr job at the chinook and black hawk wing. The teachers aide job doesn't pay good my salary is $11451 a year but the benifits are amazing but pay is crap I can't come back here. I do spend a lot of time with my boys already I'm out of work and home by 245 every day and noah meets me at the door going " daddy ish ish" asking to go fishing and mornings befor work he wakes me up at 6 puts my glasses on holds his hands over his head and yells "buck buck buck" and we watch hunting till I gotta go to work. we go on walks every other day and fishing on the days we don't walk. I'm. Just gonna take some days off and go one long fishing trips maybe introduce him to some salmon and hope they don't drag him up stream lol. Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted September 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 2, 2011 That actually sounds like a pretty cool gig. Yup conisdering iv worked cars, heavy trucks, race bikes, dragsters the only thing left is planes, choppers, boats, and hybrids why not have the army train me and employ me to fish(wow can't believe I made that typo haha) I mean fix blackhawks and chinooks at the medivac wing in rochester. That will also give me something to fall back on after the military thing sense I'm infantry now and there's nothing u can carry that over to really. Quote
guitarkid Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 family first, also as a side note, I would take a picture of him with his hands over his head going "buck" and put it in the top of you helmet. -gk Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 My oldest son will be 22 in a few weeks and man I just don't know where it went. As the man of the house you have to provide but that doesn't mean sacrificing everything for every last cent. Seems to me you can spend some time with the family and still meet your work obligations. As for considering the wife's feelings on the topic, that's a two way street. Hear her out but expect the same in return. Quote

I think your wife sees it as needing the money. You don't make much at all to be honest. You got bills to pay too I imagine. I can see your wife's point of view, but in reality family does come first. Hard choice to be honest. Quote
