The Rooster Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Does anyone have any experience with the Browning SilaFlex rods from BPS?? Seems they are fiberglass from reading the descriptions. I think that would be a bit heavy but might make a decent cranking rod. Quote
Packard Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I've used them, they're better than most rods under $100 for cranking. They aren't the most sensitive or lightest rod for sure but for $40, can't get much better for that price. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 A decent cheaper rod for cranking. Quote
The Rooster Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 How would you say these compare in weight to and Ugly Stik Lite, or the Lite Pro from Walmart?? I'm currently using Lite Pro rods for my medium and deep diving rods. I have two of them, a 6'6" for medium divers, and a 7' for deep divers. I think I can swing an upgrade for a lighter cranking rod for at least one, the one I use the most anyway, which is the medium diving rod. I was interested in these simply because of the price and the pictures make them look well made. But, I plan to look here at the local shops also to see if they have any of the old Compres left at a discounted price. I could probably come up with anywhere from $60 to as much as $100, which I know would easily buy a cranking rod on the higher end of the price range, but I don't want to lay it all down if I don't have too. Packard Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 They are right around the same weight as an ugly stick. They are a good rod for the money no doubt. I use the Falcon Bucoo for my cranking and it's good enough for me, hooked up first cast no problems. You can try to pick a cranking rod up online during one of the labor day sales. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I have one of those rods. I love it, but hardly use it, not sure why. But, I love the parabolic action on it! Quote
joshholmes Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 from waht ive heard they were brought back by popular demand from browning and improved. i personally dont like using pure fiberglass for cranking, i prefer kvds cranking rods, but we all use what we can afford Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 3, 2011 Super User Posted September 3, 2011 50 years ago they were top of the line, retailing for over a hundred dollars. In fact I have a couple pre-Browning Silaflex rods, with the original cloth sleeves, that were my grandfathers. If the new rods are built as well as the originals you shouldn't have an issue. Quote
