bigtimfish Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Honestly guys I am Fishing Rayburn for the first time at night pretty soon. Usually in the pond I fish at night i have a black popper(BPS) that works ok, but I need the top notch. Which is the best. Buzzbait,Propbait, popper, or walk the dog style? Quote

7mm-08 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Just started night fishing this summer but I have had good luck with popping scum frogs. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted July 13, 2009 Super User Posted July 13, 2009 Don't limit yourself to one type of bait. Sometimes when the Jitterbug won't produce, a slowly popped Hula popper or a Rapala will get the job done. Quote

bassin is addicting Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 X2 on the black jitterbug. steady retrieve. don't stop reeling if they strike and don't get it. keep reelin' don't panic and jerk when you hear the explosion. you will feel the weight. black spinner single colorado blade works pretty well too. black popper and black Cavitron buzzbait also. kms399 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I have been doing really well with a rapala x-walk13 I have been on the lake around 4 AM so I have been getting 2 hours of dark fishing with this lure. I do get alot of misses as I think you will with most walk the dog type lures. I have to remind my self to slow down twitch wait for the lure to stop then twitch again I get alot more hookups that way. and the best part is with such a large bait I have been averaging 3 lbs which is pretty good for MN. http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=x-rap_walk_13&freshorsalt=Salt Quote

I fish with a magnum black jitterbug that I custom painted myself. I catch at least 5 in a night on that thing. OPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPO Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 14, 2009 Super User Posted July 14, 2009 I'd go with an Arbogast Jitterbug - 5/8oz x 3" - Black For trophy bass, go with the musky size (1-1/4oz x 4.5") Give bass every advantage for homing in on their nighttime target. Use a SLOW, STEADY, NONSTOP retrieve (soothing burble). Roger Quote
Super User CWB Posted July 14, 2009 Super User Posted July 14, 2009 jitterbugs are known producers for night fishing. +1 and black on black buzzbaits X2. For night fishing you want something with steady retrieve the fish can home in on and smack. I like the double bladed buzzbaits in 1/2 oz. as you can slow them way down and don't overlook the big musky jitterbug. Match lure size to target fish size. A sleeper I use is Mouldys Hawg Wobbler, a musky bait. Huge wake and good noise at very slow retrieve speeds. http://www.muskyshop.com/modules/cart/products.php/nav_id/26/page/3/id/1846/name/MouldysLittleMagnumHawgWobbler I have caught a lot of good bass while targeting Musky on the surface at twilight.
