Brand0n Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I have two baitcasters, similar. One an Abu Garcia Black max and the other a Silver max. I got the silver max used from someone local and the black max new. The silver max feels like butter reeling in. The black max feels nowhere near the same. They are the same except the black max has a flippin switch and the silver max doesn't and the silver max has one more bearing. What can I do to make my black max feel the same? or close to? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 It depends on what has/has not been done to each reel. Amount and type of lube used on the gear train can affect the feel. I also find that "smooth" can maen something different to one person than the other. Are you looking for totally effortless reeling or a more connected connected feel without bumps, grinds, sounds? Super User K_Mac Posted August 29, 2011 Super User Posted August 29, 2011 DVT is the guy to help answer this question. I will simply say a properly cleaned and lubed reel is often better than that same reel right out of the box. Good luck. Quote
Brand0n Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 my silver max is effortless, and the black max is well...not so. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 ABU is notorious for over lubing at the factory. If the Black Max is new it will most likely free up as you use it. Both would likely benefit from a deep cleaning and proper lubing. Quote
Brand0n Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 ive had the black max since the 1st of the year. it works great and all but reeling isnt smooth as the silver max and casting is more effort Quote
