Brand0n Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Ive ran out of things to use. Fishing has slowed a bit where I fish. My dad caught a 5lber yesterday and I caught one today. Couldn't pay for another bite. Air temps are in the upper 90s murky water, weeds, and shallow with deep channels. Quote
MuffinMan Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 deep diving crankbaits for late morning/afternoon wacky rigged senkos all day, and Devils Horse(morning) Quote
midnighthrasher Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Rage craw with a 1/8 pegged weight. Nice slow fall with crazy action. Slow fall gives them lots of time and that crazy rage tail action gives them a reason. Quote
senko_77 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Is the vegetation in the shallow water close to the surface or even matted up, or is it that kind of pond scum type grass that stays close to the bottom? If the grass is high up, take hollow bodied frog like the Spro Bronzeye and cast the crap out of that thing, covering all the grass mats. Another great thing to try is a chatterbait style bait along the grass edges and over the tops of the submerged grass. Spro makes a jig called the Shake N' Bake that really tears them up. It has a double frog hook rather than the traditional single hook and this GREATLY improves hook ups. A steady retrieve usually works, but if they aren't hitting that, try working it in like a carolina rig. Let it drop to the bottom, then sweep your rop tip sideways, then let the bait drop again. Watch your line on the fall. After hitting that shallow vegetation, move out to that channel and cast a texas rigged worm along the edges and to any kind of cover you see on your electronics (rock, brush, stumps, etc.). My absolute favorite bait setup is a 1/4oz tungsten screw in bullet weight, 4/0 Gamaktsu EWG, and Zoom Mag II ribbontail worm. That freakin thing flat out catches. I really like the colors Plum and Black Neon. I doubt the color matters, but anything that adds to your confidence is a good thing. Cast it out and dead stick it. Move it as little as possible and I promise you, you will catch fish. The biggest thing is to make sure your casting to the right spot. This isn't a technique to cover water. Your moving the bait a foot a minute. Get that cast to the right spot on that channel and you will catch quality fish. This is an awesome summer technique. Quote
Brand0n Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 theres weeds heavily on the top in the middle of the lake and around it, the weeds are scattered on the top and bottom of the lake. black neon is my go-to t-rigged worm in 10". the water is always murky also. Quote
Big-O Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 June Bug color is good in murky water as well! Might try a Rage Rig (weighted swimbait hook) on your soft plastics like, Craws, creature baits and Big Worms as this presentation allows the bait to fall horizontal thru the grass and weeds. Doesn't grass foul as much and the fall is especially attractive to the fish when fished slow like T rig lift and fall. Keep your rod tip high with short, slow lifts and settle technique. This has been one of my favorite presentations for many years in those conditions. Concentrate on the grass edges on points and near deeper water and allow the bait to fall slowly over the outside edges when possible. Hope this helps you out a bit... Big O www.ragetail.com 1 Quote
Brand0n Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 i used a rage tail craw in the watermelon red flake as a trailer on a strike king swim jig 1/4oz in the bluegill color and fish demolished it til i actually lost it. i had a 6' leader on my braided line and somehow one bite from something made me lose my lure. such a good color combo for a swim jig and trailer. Diablos Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 For the most part I start hot summer days the same. Before sunrise till about 30min after I'll thrown various topwaters. Then i begin to throw fat ikas and other plastics to shallow cover Then I start working jigs and cranks when sun is high Then I'll drag a carolina rig in deep water when I'm hot and starting to lose concentration Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted September 1, 2011 Super User Posted September 1, 2011 I've been doing very well with Fat Ikas this summer. Quote
