North Ga Hillbilly Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I've never been able to get decent at a bc reel, but I have put my mind to making it happen soon. I saw this: http://www.basspro.com/enigma_fishing_reels/_/N-0/Ntk-Search_All/Ntt-enigma+reels?cm_sp=EnigmaReelMar2011_HM on BPS and was wondering if anyone had an opinion. Thanks NGaHB Quote
ToledoEF Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 No get a Pro Qualifier or Carbonlite those are the two best bc reels that bps makes. Dual brakes and very easy for a beginner to use. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 28, 2011 Super User Posted August 28, 2011 I haven't fished one of those lippy basstards but I could find a better use for $100. BPS has some decent reels, like ToledoEF, I would go the PQ route. Dual braking can be a big help in the beginning id set 4 cent. brakes on and then adjust the mag accordingly. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted August 28, 2011 Super User Posted August 28, 2011 The PQ would be a great first BC for you. Almost have to try to get a backlash with that puppy. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted August 28, 2011 Super User Posted August 28, 2011 There have been several threads on the Enigma this year and you might want to search and read those topics. As I recall, only one person had actually used the reel and he said that the braking system worked very well. I think its great that BPS came up with a new and interesting braking system. Having said that, the reel does have a graphite frame (looked down on nowadays) and is not an attractive reel. Since there have not been a lot of "on-the-water" reviews on the reel, I would pass and consider the earlier recommendations - the BPS PQ or CL (Carbonlite). I have 6 PQs and 2 CLs - great reals and best values (well, best values after all the $60 Curados sell out - LOL). If you're not in a hurry to buy, wait for the eventual sales. The PQ is often marked down to $80, the CL down to $100, and if you were still interested in the Enigma - they have been down to $80. Quote
The Rooster Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Knowing the Enigma has a frame NOT made from aluminum, I would pass, especially at that price. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted August 29, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted August 29, 2011 Buy 2 of these for 100 bucks and you will be much happier. http://www.***.com/Abu_Garcia_Pro_Max_Casting_Reel/descpage-AGPM.html Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 I ended up with a citica today from Dicks sporting goods for a pretty low price. I did well with it today, I think some of the other reels I had used needed maintenance and a good cleaning. I'm pretty happy with the result. Thanks NGaHB Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted August 29, 2011 Super User Posted August 29, 2011 My opinion? I wouldn't take it if it was free. Quote

You'll be very pleased with the Citica, I suspect. Quote
jignfule Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Excellent choice my friend. You'll be very pleased with the Citica, I suspect. Good reel for the money, you should be happy with it. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 30, 2011 Super User Posted August 30, 2011 The Citica is head and shoulders above that plastic crap being hyped above. Quote
NBR Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Your problem is you are not practicing enough before you go to the lake. Going to the lake before you are reasonable capable with a bait caster just adds to frustration and wastes precious fishing time. The back yard was, is and will always be the best place to get a basic proficiency in bait casting. Quote
FishinTN Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 BPS Pro-Q is a great reel especially when on sale(happens often). The Caneen from shimano is a nice reel also for the money. Don't own or used a citica, so I can't say there. From opinions from alot of other guys, any 1 of the 3 mentioned would be a good choice. Quote
