Sfritr Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Question: Lets say you put on a soft plastic, throw it a few times during an outing but don't get bit. You pack up and go home for the day. Do you A. leave on that lure the next trip B. Automatically toss it and rig a fresh one the next time on the water I personally feel like I have to put on a fresh bait every time. Like that lure is now tainted and has bad JU JU. Quote
MichBassMan Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 No bad "ju ju" here. I reuse them if possible. I keep a tupperware container in the boat, all used soft baits go in there. Unless I'm fishing a tournament I always start from the used box untill I find whats working that day. Periodically at home I'll go thru the used box and discard any used baits that are no longer usable or patchable. This avoids rusty hooks from baits left on. It avoids waste. It avoids a mess in the boat, and it avoids non-biodegradable soft plastics being tossed in the lake by guests or partners in the boat. Sometimes used baits have GOOD "ju ju" Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 11, 2009 Super User Posted July 11, 2009 i use um till they fall apart i have a rage toad now going on a month of use its about had it though ,the hook kinda falls through on a cast LOL Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted July 11, 2009 Super User Posted July 11, 2009 I found a torn up Tiki Stick on the floor of my boat that still smelled like it came out of the bag. It has been there for weeks. It will still catch fish. I also have soft plastics from the 1980's that are as fresh as the day I got them. Quote
CRFisher Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I bought a 3 pack of Ribbits last year, finally wore out the first one last week, now to rig up #2. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 11, 2009 Super User Posted July 11, 2009 Like Maxximus, I use it until it practically breaks to pieces and there ain 't enough plastic to insert the hook. Managed to catch 30 fish on an Ika and if it weren 't because the bait simply lifted off from the hook and went flying into the stratosphere like a rocket > when I casted it probably could have squeezed a couple more fish out of it. CRFisher Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Half the "new" plastic baits I try are ones I found on the bank. Use them until they fall apart. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 12, 2009 Super User Posted July 12, 2009 Most plastics can be rigged 3 or 4 diff ways. AFTER there original use.Zoom trick worms can be rigged wacky, swimming worm, backwards ,cut off to make smaller worms ,,,Raul i turned my rage toad around trying it backwards made a couple cast it skips to the right and left in a wild fashion didnt get anything storm was coming up had to run.BUT come tomorrow thorough testing.stay tuned yall Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 12, 2009 Super User Posted July 12, 2009 I use the "used" ones first,I usually manage to lose it or get it snagged by the 20th cast or so... Never manage to keep the bait till it's completely useless. ;D Quote
D4u2s0t Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I use a bait until it starts to get beat up, then I switch. If I am switching baits, and the one i'm using is still in good shape, it goes back in the tackle box. Quote
Ellesar Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I like to start fresh, don't know why just do. Quote
JellyMan Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 If I ever wanna bring some plastics back to life I just get a bottle of some nice spray scent, drop a bit of salt in the bag, shake around, and let em sit for a week or so. That usually bring em back from the dead as far as being dry or smelly. But for the most part, I go through a bag or more each day I fish. Every month I need to buy more so I dont have much old stuff. Quote
12eal1ty Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 anyone here use mend-it before? what are your thoughts? Quote
tnbassfisher Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I normally manage to get it hug up before it wont hold on the hook. Quote
