Amite River Cat Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Mine & BassResources fb Opinions Below the Pam Martin Wells - Old Hickory Story BassResource.com Article On Pam Martin Wells Win At Old Hickory http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/lbaa-old-hickory-final.html Pam Martin-Wells Wins Old Hickory and Angler of the Year | The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide® www.bassresource.com Legendary professional angler Pam Martin-Wells claimed her second straight Lady Bass Anglers Association (LBAA) tournament victory today on Tennessee’s Old Hickory Lake. But equally important Martin-Wells pulled off a come from behind win in the Angler of the Year race to capture the LBAA’s first pr...... AmiteRiverCat ** Hurricane Pam made landfall @ Old Hickory hours before Hurricane Irene made her way to the coast of North Carolina. Pam in her own right, is a force to be reckoned with - Congrats Pam! www.bassresource.com ** Fishing was extremely tough - the dog days of summer. Lots of small fish, very few keepers - and a ton of very skinny fish...a 14" fish didn't even weigh a pound! It was 100 degrees on Thursday, 92 on Friday. One lady fished while passing kidney stones - literally laying down on the front of the deck while operating the trolling motor with her hands all day so her co-angler could still fish. The reason? "My co-angler paid $300 to fish in this tournament. I am NOT letting her down!" If anybody claims these women aren’t as tough as the men, they’re on crack! AmiteRiverCat ** If anything, we female anglers have to work twice as hard to prove ourselves and we are still not given the proper recognition. There is a lack of exposure to the world of Lady Bass Anglers - which severely minimizes the fan base interest. This in turn, lessens the available sponsorships that fund these ladies and keeps the women's tournament trails thriving. Look at the difference in the amounts given in winnings for a predominantly male to female tournament, such as AOY. There is no comparison! The winnings in dollar amounts are on different ends of the spectrum and it is not fair to these ladies because they fish through the same grueling conditions that the men do. But until the sponsors and the public get behind the female tournament trail - women like Pam Martin-Wells, will keep fighting the fight to keep the LBAA and all of the other women’s tournament trails viable. To the women of the fishing world, keep your heads held high and keep fighting the fight every step of the way. To the world I say; do not let their first names fool you; these women are as tough as the male anglers. They have more than proven themselves; they deserve and have earned as much respect as their male counterparts! WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THIS TOPIC? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR RESPONSES! Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 28, 2011 Super User Posted August 28, 2011 Welcome Elaine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's all about marketing yourselves and getting the big time sponsor's attention. Keep fighting the good fight . Quote
Amite River Cat Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 Thank you Grey Wolf! I now work the BASSMASTER CENTRAL OPENS, ELITES ("BATTLE ON THE BAYOU") Tournaments & CLASSICS (2009 & upcoming Classic), including the final WBT, WBT AOY in 2009 with BASS/ESPN, as often I can. I'll work with BASS/ESPN again in February @ the 2012 Classic. They are a great group of people to work with as well as the anglers. Attached is a picture of me & Iaconelli @ the "Battle On The Bayou", weigh-in. He's looking for a weigh bag. His boat broke down, he left it tied up and rode in with someone else. As bad as his day was going - he was standing there talking to me about my sister who also lives in NJ. He wanted to know what area of the state was she was located from the town he lives in. Even though I'm not on the Women's Tournament Trail, I still try to be an advocate for them. I've seen the life and it isn't as glamorous as everyone thinks it is. You have to love what you do and give up a lot of home time... I want to see women like Pam Martin-Wells..etc, get the props they deserve. Mainly, because what they're getting paid, is not even a 3rd of what the men receive when they win....and guess what? It was in the same weather on the same day - that it was a 100 degree day or 28 degree, raining and the wind blowing 40 mph conditions. Just doesn't seem right...just saying! Welcome Elaine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's all about marketing yourselves and getting the big time sponsor's attention. Keep fighting the good fight . Quote

Amite River Cat Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 I'm looking forward to meeting some of the other Bass Resource members. It's always great to be a part of a group of folks that have the same passion for what you enjoy doing the most. In this case of course, Bass Fishing is that passion. Some people like to watch NASCAR, I prefer to watch Dave Mercer, Zona, Tommy Sanders & Tripp Wheldon...etc. My only complaint with ESPN, The Outdoor Channel...etc.,is; there are no female anglers on any of the fishing programs. Women have at least broken down the walls to commentating in the world of the NFL & NBA...even Danica Patrick has broken down the walls in Stock Car racing & is well on her way to NASCAR. When will the world of Angling catch up? Quote

Amite River Cat Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Welcome !!! Keep it up! Thanks Fishing Cowgirl! I'm not going anywhere. I'm going keep the chatter going on Women's Issues in Fishing...until they change drastically or carry me away in a body bag! I don't give up & I don't give in....I can be persistently persuasive. I think people give in - just to shut me up! Stop by from time to time..I hope to hear some of views, whether positive or negative experiences. Have great Holiday Quote
janb Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Wow! I'm glad I found this forum! Keep it going! I too had planned to fish on the WBT trail last year (2010) when BASS dropped it. I was so disappointed...I had finally gotten to where I could financially start fishing some of the national tournaments and then that happened. I heard about the formation of what would become the LBAA, and attended the May meeting at KY Lake and then the Kick-Off Tournament on Arkansas' Lake Dardanelle, where I won the Co-Angler division! That made up my mind to fish the complete LBAA circuit this year. My best finish was at Old Hickory Lake where I won Co-Angler Big Bass and came in 8th overall. Next stop is Kentucky Lake for the Lady Bass Classic! Jan Quote
MrsTomustang Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 While I appreciate to some degree the pioneering ways and commentary, I guess I was raised a little different. My father, and mentor, raised me to be the very best I could be at whatever I chose to do and if I was not accepted, let my dignity, grace and exceptional skills speak for themselves. I was the first female moderator on one of the premier Ford Mustang forums. I earned that by being dignified and tactful in all my interactions and eventually the gentlemen who at one time felt women did not deserve to be in the garage, but instead in the kitchen.....became my biggest proponents. Those ladies who have broken the proverbial glass ceiling did through dignified, exceptional work and ethics. Not by flashing on a Go-Daddy promo or acting masculine. It is the stealth workings that effectuate real change. The generation of lady anglers (and their male counterparts) involved in collegiate bass fishing association are in the best position to work in collaboration with their male team mates and counterparts to change minds, opinions and the environment to accept female anglers in the sport. Just one low-key lady anglers opinion, but history shows the map to success, it's up to the future lady anglers to find and follow it. 1 Quote
grampa1114 Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I didn't think the "Fishing Women" section was open for guys to read...but I kept seeing the 'respect' issue being brought up...as I scrolled by, so I stopped in. I'm older than most on this site but perhaps not as well informed as I should be. Been told that I didn't know when to 'shut up'. Just seems to me that as long as people think that there is a need for a different section for anyone...that there will be a 'respect' issue. I'm afraid that in this case, the fish have the right idea...If you're good enough then you're gonna catch'em. Maybe by separating one set of fishermen from another...everybody misses out on valuable experience. Anybody that watched an early "Jimmy Houston" show knew his wife could outfish him...just like mine outfishes me. Like I said, been told I don't know when to 'shut up'. . Grampa..... 2 Quote
