Looking for a pitching rod. 7'to 7'6. I would prefer a MH action with fast or xfast tip don't know which. I use a fast tip now on a mag touch (cabelas) rod. I pitch mostly 1/4 or 3/8 jigs and creatures. Don't want a pool stick either never flip. I would also like to hear if anyone pitches with a short handle? The one I have is long and seems to get in way at times. 200 dollars and below. Thank you for any input.

A good stick for a about 120 bucks is a 7.6 Flipping/Pitching stick Its a Daiwa S model. I used to fish them when I was on a budget not something I would fish anymore but they are a very good rod for the money. fairly light and well balanced and pretty sensitive really. I mean IMHO in they cant be beat for the money... If you wanted to go a little higher then 200 the Daiwa Zillion F/Ping sticks are very nice rods.

IMHO a short handle on a F/P rod would be not so good you want that long handle for leverage to pull them out of heavy cover, plus you arent going to find a NON custom F/P stick with a short handle, you would have to have one built for you because 99% of ppl prefer a longer handle on that type of rod and a shorter handle on a F/P stick would throw that stick WAYYYYY outta balance it would be so tip heavy it wouldnt be funny...

For pitching 1/4-3/8 oz. jigs, a Dobyns 4 power rod is really what you want. It has a good tip for pitching and a shorter handle than what you are probably used to. They balance extremely well. I'll recommend the Savvy 734. I have one, and I pitch with it a lot right now, mostly a 1/4 oz tungsten weight and a Rage Tail. It handles them well, though if the cover is heavy I'll move to a Champion 735c.
