jmed999 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Gonna use minnows to catch some largemouth (or try to) so I'm about to trap some using a wire mesh trap I got from BPS. What is good to put in those for bait? Thanks! Quote
jmed999 Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 Sorry I just noticed another thread about trapping minnows and it looks like dog food is a good bait. Quote
BassThumb Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 For trapping minnows and craws, use a can of seafood-flavored cat food that was stabbed up with a flathead screwdriver. It works great, lasts long, and it's clean. Quote
rowyourboat Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 use a bread tie to hang a few slices of onions. works 2x better than bread, dogfood, etc.... also it last much longer Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 my uncle bought one of those in the spring. we used bread in it the couple times we used it. the problem with bread is it floats to the top and all the fish hang around the top of it plucking at the bread. we caught a total of 3 small bluegill, wouldve been 4 but we left one in there and he got out eventually. never heard about the onion thing, sounds interesting. so does the can of catfood. i imagine hard dogfood would float too. jmed999 Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 Cool...thanks for the tip....I'm going to try it! Quote
Jim H. Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Don't know anything about spending money for cat food just to catch a couple of minnows. Get yourself an empty plastic Kraft Miracle whip quart jar (price $.00), a canning jar lid ring (cost $.05), a empty soda pop plastic bottle (cost $.00). Use a knife or scissors ro make a funnel out of the top. Then invert the funnel and secure it in the mouth of the jar with the canning ring. Bait with a crumbled up saltine cracker. Can't find a Miracle Whip jar, use a fruit jar but be careful to not break the glass. Quote
