I picked up a baitcasting combo from someone local. It has braid from the previous owner. He said its 25lb and alternating green/black. Anyone know the brand?

Only thing I remember like that was Berkley Gorilla Tough braid. I tried to do a search but nothing close besides camo or that PowerPro Depth Hunter multi-color. Might be this brand Offshore Angler™ Magibraid, they have Multi color as well.

i have no clue. it was an older fisherman who rigged it up and never used it. ive never even tried braid before so i figured it was my shot and hopefully id like it. 25lb braid alright to start with on a baitcaster? i normally use 15lb mono on all my setups.

A lot of people here say to us 50-70lb on a baitcaster or else it will dig but I have never used it on a baitcaster, only spinning.

ive heard it digs too without backing and proper drag setting. im not sure if he put any backing line on it or not but theres a leader of mono or flouro on it im sure theres backing

If can afford get some braid or line you know. At least it's something you trust. I tried t odo a search but only came up with what I posted. I use 50# in PowerPro and Sufix 832 right now but have use 30# XPS Braid before. it dig for a few weeks but was fine after.

Braid is great and EASY to cast. It has no memory and doesnt backlash near as bad. Dont worry about the braided line digging in, your 25lb should have roughly the same diameter as 8 lb mono, but a tad bit smaller. If you are worried about backlashes, make a single cast as far as you can (or just pull line out until you feel as though you have more line out than you would ever get out from casting), pull about 15-20 yards extra out and then put tape across the reel and wind your line back up. The tape will keep the line from digging in and greatly diminish the extent of any backlash that might occur during the process of learning how to operate a baitcaster. Braid is great, you'l be amazed at the sensitivity. Add a mono or flouro leader depending on the technique that you are using to aid in clear water fishing.

i fish in a murkey water lake in weeds or open water...do i need a flour leader? and yes it ended up being that fireline you guys were talking about. not bad line, casts smooth and very sensitive. great hooksets also.

You should be fine since the line color is lo-vis but if a leader makes you more confident then use one.

I backlash less with braid than mono, and when I do braid is easier to pick out and it does kink like mono does. As for what size, I use 15#PP on one and 20#PP on the others and haven't had a problem with cutting.

i ended up taking that old line off and putting some 20# power pro on it in moss green. it casts smooth, easy, and def. outshines the normal mono i use. i also put some kvd line conditioner on it before i used it. leader or no leader in murky water?

No leader in murkey water unless you are fishing around rocky bottoms.

nope just weeds and open water. i love how i can rip a lipless crankbait or spinnerbait right through the weeds with braid. i should have switched a long time ago. what all techniques do you guys use braid for? ive only tried it on my swim jig, lipless cranks, and spinnerbaits

I use 30# power pro and have never really had a problem. It digs a little bit but nothing I'm worried about. I use it for any thing I can if at all possible. I like braid over mono or floro and I don't have as many set ups as I use to any more so braid is like all purpose for me. It kinda sucks though for cranks at least to me since it doesn't stretch so they don't get time to really grab it before you set the hook and it easy to pull a bait away from a fish with braid.

When the drag is loosened up the braid does not stretch, line is just pulled out, I'm sure that was the intent. Braid does not require a hard hook set, timing would be more important, you get a feel for it after a short while.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I want the line to pull out a bit to act like mono when it stretches. I only do this on cranks.
