I need some advice as to which setups i should use for specific purposes,

i have a Quantum ignitioncombowith a 6'6" light-medium acton rod spooled with 8lb Trilene XT. I also have a Quantum Tournament grade baitcaster combo with a 6'6" heavy action rod, it is spooled with 14lb Spiderwire EZ Mono. With my spinning setup I mainly fish small soft plastics, small spinnerbaits, and small jigs. With my baitcast setup i mainly fish top-water, large plastics, and large spinerbaits and jigs. Does this sound ok to you guys?

I wouldn't throw any topwater, or any other lure, with trebles on a heavy action rod with braid. A soft rod and mono will greatly increase your hook-ups.

Sounds like you could use something in between the two. Med or MH fast action. If the top water is the only trebel lure you throw often that's a decent compromise. Phil's right though about generally using a slower action rod for trebel hook baits, even then there is some debate.

Yeah, I should have said that a softer rod for treble hooks is the popular school of thought. It has done wonders for my treble hook lure fishing. I don't lose many fish with them anymore.
