Super User Sam Posted August 23, 2011 Super User Posted August 23, 2011 Just had an earthquake in Richmond, Virgina. Lasted about 30 to 40 seconds. Second one I have ever been in. My secretary is going bonkers as she is from Pittsburg and they don't have earthquakes. Last one messed up the sheet rock in a few of my home's rooms. Will check for damage when I get home. It was kool!!!! So you California guys, how many have you been through? Quote
endless Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) Here to in Caroline. I just posted as well didn't see any. It was freaky. I don't think I could deal with that living elsewhere. I would like to know when the last one in VA was recorded? http://www.virginiaplaces.org/geology/quake.html Virginia is pretty stable, but just about any place in the state can experience an earthquake. Manassas was hit by a surprise tremor in 1997, and an equivalent earthquake was felt in Culpeper (which is in the same Triassic basin as Manassas) two months earlier. From that website. endless Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Supposedly there was one recorded in 2004 in Va from what DC fox news said when I looked online. They also said no damage so far. DR. Michael Blanpied says wouldn't be surprise to face aftershocks but should be smaller. http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/earthquake-dc-maryland-virginia-071610 They said it was felt from Raleigh N.C to NY. http://img.ibtimes.com/www/site/article/202635.htm Quote
basser89 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Felt it here at work in Germantown, MD. Didn't seem to last that long, guessing MAYBE 15-20 seconds. Was real comforting looking over at the ceiling watching the air system shake! Glad I wasn't under it! Quote
Senkoman12 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 felt it here just north of syracuse ny. had one up here last year about the same time of year, that one came from ottawa Quote

GrundleLove Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Unimpressed by your predictability, LOL. I just dont get it. Like, Do you know how many earthquakes there were today already? 16. And the day is not over yet. And yes there is one small one(ok fine "mild") on the east coast and they internet has a seizure. There was a 6.0 in Sumatra yesterday and did you see any status updates from jungle people freakin out saying "OMG I WAS IN A TREE WACKING COCONUTZ WHEN I FELTZ ITZ!!" No. Because there are literally dozens if not more earthquakes that happen everyday. For God's sake there was 13 in Colorado alone in the past 27 hours! And if you are unimpressed with my predictability or my vast knowledge of earthquakes: 2 Quote
NateFollmer Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Felt it pretty strong in Pa. Felt like my office was going to fall onto the road (Electric Ave.... Yeah, laugh it up, I work on the street in the song... I called the Electric Company one day and they had a hayday with it). Lasted about 15 seconds. Up next, Yellowstone eruption! muahahaha Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 23, 2011 Super User Posted August 23, 2011 And if you are unimpressed with my predictability or my vast knowledge of earthquakes: lawls. 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted August 23, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 23, 2011 My friend was sitting in his Bass Catt getting ready for a tournament tomorrow and he said the entire boat started to shake. He had no idea what was going on until he figured out it was an earthquake. If you hear him tell the story it is very funny. P.S. Can you imagine what people having sex thought? The entire room, etc. shaking. Fantastic!!!!! Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 23, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 23, 2011 J, your response is epic!!!!! Quote
