I am looking for a spinning setup around $100 with a medium-heavy rod, any suggestions of a good quality rod&reel?

Pflueger President (60.00) and Berkley Lightning rod(40.00)(not the shock).

This is about the best you're going to do for 100.00 and it is a great cheaper outfit. :)

X2, but if your will to buy used I would get a nice used reel off ebay or our flea market.

I agree with the reel selection, very good value in the president line. The rod though I have never used ,but every time someone is looking for a rod in that price range its usually the first one mentioned. I would say it would make a nice combo.

Try the Field and Stream Tec Spec series from Dick's. I have the 7' MH/F tube and rigging rod which I use for plastics. It is normally $60 but there is always a $10 off coupon online for Dick's. The rod is light and sensitive as I have been fishing senkos and fat ikas with it lately and it has worked well. It has plenty of backbone and has even seen some frog use with 30# Cajun braid.

Hard to wrong with a Shimano Clarus, it did win Icast a few years ago, I have a 6'6 6/12 rod ( many other size rods available) with a 30 supreme on it, 10# braid. The similar sized president or even a trion would most likely balance fairly well.

Most $50 reels and $50 rods should be quite adequate.
