Says you are in socal? Bass are very pressured throughout the area but you will have good luck with sunfish this time of year. Small size 18 or 20 hook with a piece of worm, shrimp or mealworm on it. Under a bobber works or you can sight fish it fly-lined. While I was out this morning saw my fair share of bluegill throughout the weeds and a few biggies swimming right off the weed line. Hope this helps.

A few to name are Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow, Grubs, Floating Rapala, and small tubes.

I 3rd the SK Bitsy Minnow in firetiger or chartreuse black-back if you want to go the lure route.

For me a #4 or #6 hook and nightcrawler no weight just worm and hook is a fish catcher. Hook just the first inch of fat end let rest hang, if going bait route for bass bigger gills.

Due to the size of the bluegill in my lake my go to lure wouldn't work for most other lakes. I use a Lucy Craft CB to find the bluegill in my lake.

But the best all around dual bait would be a 1/8 or 1/16 oz RoadRunner.

Another for the beetle spin or 2" curly tail grubs with a 1/8th head I like white the best for those.

I'll make that a 4th for the Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow, and a 3rd for the Beetle Spin. You should have luck on both of those. If the bite gets slow though, just try live bait, or a piece of white bread kneaded into a little ball and placed on the hook. The bluegill where I fish LOVE bread.

Beetlespin gets my vote.
