smac024 Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 taking my nephew fishing this week and want him to catch fish period.what lures do you recommend that can catch both bass and sunfish? thanks Says you are in socal? Bass are very pressured throughout the area but you will have good luck with sunfish this time of year. Small size 18 or 20 hook with a piece of worm, shrimp or mealworm on it. Under a bobber works or you can sight fish it fly-lined. While I was out this morning saw my fair share of bluegill throughout the weeds and a few biggies swimming right off the weed line. Hope this helps. Quote
brushhoggin Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 1/16 oz road runner with a white bps cajun critter Quote
Packard Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 A few to name are Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow, Grubs, Floating Rapala, and small tubes. Quote
Lake Forest Bassin Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 I use the Fisher's choice by Timbuktu,I get the super meal worms and they work well. Quote
catch anything Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 i second the bitsy pond minnow and maybe a marabou jig Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted August 20, 2011 Super User Posted August 20, 2011 I 3rd the SK Bitsy Minnow in firetiger or chartreuse black-back if you want to go the lure route. For me a #4 or #6 hook and nightcrawler no weight just worm and hook is a fish catcher. Hook just the first inch of fat end let rest hang, if going bait route for bass bigger gills. Quote
The one that got away Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Another vote for the floating Rapala. Catches anything that swims. Quote
RangerEnthusiast Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Make it one more for the Floating Rapala. Quote
catch anything Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 try catching a small bluegill and hooking it up for big bass Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 21, 2011 Super User Posted August 21, 2011 Due to the size of the bluegill in my lake my go to lure wouldn't work for most other lakes. I use a Lucy Craft CB to find the bluegill in my lake. But the best all around dual bait would be a 1/8 or 1/16 oz RoadRunner. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted August 21, 2011 Super User Posted August 21, 2011 Another vote for the BeetleSpin. Quote
hatrix Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Another for the beetle spin or 2" curly tail grubs with a 1/8th head I like white the best for those. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted August 22, 2011 Super User Posted August 22, 2011 A panther martin or (ack ack!) roostertail. Quote
Avid Angler FL Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I'll make that a 4th for the Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow, and a 3rd for the Beetle Spin. You should have luck on both of those. If the bite gets slow though, just try live bait, or a piece of white bread kneaded into a little ball and placed on the hook. The bluegill where I fish LOVE bread. Quote
Wisconsin Heat. Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 floating rapala! ive caught bluegill on size 9, but they will hit size 5 easily and agressively, and the bass find it to be a nice snack as well Quote
