What do many of you recommend for first time use of braid on baitcaster? The setup primary use would be for pitching/flipping jigs and plastics. From reading other topics, higher diameter lines are recommended to reduce digging. But what's a better line; PowerPro (moss green or hi-vis yellow) or Sufix 832? And should I use #40 or #50 line?

I like both. I got 50# Power Pro for jigging and it does well for me. I have Sufix 832 50# for frogging. My problem with 832 is the fading. If do get Power Pro check out Walmart for their prices I bought my spool for $13 last year. I've read 832 was meant for sinking??

Here is a topic on braid

Are you using it on the Carbonlite? If so I never tried flipping/pitching on my Carbonlite but I heard it wouldn't be good cause of the drag power, 8# drag. If still want to try it , try this .RM. suggestion on flipping

Or did you get another setup?

There are lots of braids that I am sure would work and you will get a number of answers here other than the two you have mentioned. Is there a reason you have narrowed your choices to these two? I haven't tried Sufix 832 yet because I am very happy with Sufix Performance Braid. I switched to that from PowerPro a few years back. However there are other fine braids as well. And if you use PowerPro I believe you will like it too. Some braids are rounder and won't dig into the spool as much but I think that once you become accustomed to a particular braid and its handling characteristics you will know what size to use to avoid digging into the spool. I rarely have issues with Sufix Performance braid but I know there are braids that have been released in the last few years that will probably out-perform it during intense testing.

Speaking of digging my XPS braid in 30# did that for the first few trips when I first got that line. Then I switched to Power Pro, cheap at Walmart and wanted to try it. I don't recall any digging in either the two Kaotic mention.

I have PP #20 on my spinning tackle, never any concerns of digging on it. I only narrowed it down to those two because they were the most mention on the site. I'm opened to other suggestions.

@endless: I have a Citica 201e, under sure of the rod right now.

Cool Cool did you buy it new or from one of the Richmond boys? If want a new and don't mind use PM stjohn13 he had a Vendetta he offer me. I couldn't afford it cause I spent to much on my new combo already. He never did give a price but check with him and see if suitable for you! He said he will sell it cheap and you being in same area picking up should be cheaper than mailing. Congrats on the new reel! Me I just went broke spending more than I should already. GTG back to Dragon: Bruce Lee Story it's on tv.

I'm currently using both and like both. The 832 color does fade a little faster, but I don't think it makes that much of a difference. The 832 is smoother and casts a little better IMO. Either one is a good choice though.

On a baitcaster I would use 40 or 50 and no less. To me 50 is a better choice because through time braid wears a little and obviously 50 has more to wear. 50's line diameter is very acceptable too.

magic markers are your friend ;)

I heard people using them 3 to 5 feet up from lure or so. What color marker, Green?

there is no comparison between sufix 832 and powerpro.sufix is far superior.you can get away with 30 lb test on a baitcaster without digging in.for all those who don't know it braid doesn't dig on a spinning reel.

I use any dark color. Don't need to make it solid, I just put "hashes" every 6 or so inches. You are just trying to break up the continues line look. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and it seems to work for me. I use white PP. Somebody'll tell you I'm wrong. Just experiment, nothing is etched in stone. Good luck, enjoy :)

832 hands down. Although the new pp 8 strand looks promising. Let me know about that rod I'll lrt it go on the cheep

832 is a better line with 8 carriers vs 4 in PP. There is a noticeable difference IMO but not sure how much it really matters. The new version of PP has 8 carriers but I haven't tried it and don't plan on it. Personally, with prices so similar and braid lasting for years I see no reason to go with PP over 832. The 832 doesn't sink enough to hinder any topwater action but the coating does fade pretty quickly. They're all going to fade at some point. Unless you're regularly replacing the braid to maintain the coating, why worry?

Uhh, yeah, yeah it can, and will. It's just that it doesn't create the same backlash issues as it would on a casting reel. When it digs down on a spinning reel, comes out with no problems. Casting reels, generally, it leads to a massive backlash when it digs and releases mid-cast.

Not concerned with collor fading. More so I want to spool the reel with quality braided line. What color does the Sufix 832 fades to...a lighter shade of green or is the color completely striped to white?

For the most part, the color bleeds and the green fades. It isn't super fast, but it does fade quickly.

In terms of braid, I'd sincerely recommend you look at Seaguar Kanzen. I'm fishing it currently and have had fewer issues with it than any other braid; for that matter everything I've fished to this point pales in comparison.

Hooligan is correct about braid digging in with spinning gear, I find it to be a non issue and of no concern. It's all about personal choice, I've been using Fins lately and it works just fine...............just go catch fish, that's the only thing that matters.

Fish with it long enough, and it turns almost white. Doesn't seem to matter to the river smallies. I think you can see it in this pic...

Any thoughts on PP Super 8 Slick? Has anyone tried it?

I fished it briefly, so briefly that I'll refrain from a decisive answer; however, it fished decent the time I had it. I felt that, even in such a short time, I'd like it versus 832.

What do you think about new PP 8 versus Sufix Performance? Is color fading and running huge with Sufix Performance, I know it's too early to determine that with the new PP 8, unless someone experienced it. Thinking of getting a hi-vis color...since I don't fish very clear water, so color shouldn't have an affect on catch rate.
