krisjack69 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I am looking for a worm and senko spinning rod and I would like to get one around 160 or so.I was wondering if the Shimano Cumara rods were any good to get there around 199.I just like to get another rod for my Stradic FI 3000.I have been using a 7ft M Quantum PT tour edition but it dont seem to throw lures that good with that rod and reel set up either that or I hadnt gotten use to the reel yet. Packard Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 My favorite rods in the $160 range are Dobyns Savvy St. Croix Avid Duckett Micro Magic I've heard good things about the Cumara but have never held or used one. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 What are you using for line? I throw 4" senkos with a M/F rod, 2500 size reel spooled with 20lb Power Pro. When looking at rods, Look at the first guide (nearest the reel seat). The diameter of that guide should be about 1/2 the diameter of the spool lip. Less than that and the line coils get backed up instead of being tamed and passed along. This a formula we use to build custom rods for peak performance. Quote
krisjack69 Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 I am using Seaguar invizx 8 lbs line right now.I mainly use 5 inch sk ocho's and zoom brush hogs with it and also some drop shot for largemouth of course since there are no smallmouth around here. Quote
KlubbaT Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I'm looking for a new rod as well at this price point. Currently have a Fenwick HMG 6'6" MF with a Pflueger Supreme reel. Want a Supreme XT 9230 and a new rod. I also fish mostly soft plastics (fat ikas, senkos, creature baits, space monkeys, rage shad, baby brush hogs, flukes, and different trailers for jigs). Was leaning towards an Avid but my buddy already has one. We are very competitive and try to use different equipment and lures. Hope some more suggestions come through. Quote
bassfinder Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 check out the shimano crucial its a nice rod and has a lifetime warranty. Quote
KlubbaT Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Anyone here have a G Loomis BSR852 Mossyback? Found one for $200 which is my limit. Read good things about the GLX version on here but can't find much about Mossyback version. Quote
DaveT63 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Its really hard to go wrong with an Avid 6'8" MXF in that price range. But keep an eye out in the for sale sections of the various fishing forums. You can find $200+ rods for a out half price quite often. I've picked up several St Croix Legend Tournament and Legend Elites, and a couple Loomis IMX rods for well under $150 shipped. Dave Quote
krisjack69 Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 Yeah the only fishing forums I know that has flea markets is this one.I dont think GON has one but have a separate site. Quote
dude loves to fish Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I have a Kistler Magnesium tube bait rod that I use for senkos and it works great. Also use it for all my weightless worm fishing. It is a very sensitive rod and mostly what I love about it, is that it is super light. Quote
Bronzeback Scuttler Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Have a look at the Powell Wacky rig rod at Tackle Warehouse. It's a 6ft 10 in 3 power spinning rod with a lifetime warranty. I've used one for the last year and it's a very powerful rod . I usually fish with 2 power fast or extra fast action spinning rods and this rods power is a boost to your confidence when you have a big bass on. It's a great feeling when you know your in complete control. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted August 24, 2011 Super User Posted August 24, 2011 I love my Cumaras, they're great rods for the money, and will absolutely smoke anything in the same range as far as weight, sensitivity, and balance. They're super rods. Quote
