TouchTooMuch Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 So today me and a buddy made an impromptu trip to Toledo, Ohio (1h 1/2 away) to the Bass Pro which is there. This was my first time to any big outdoors store outside of Gander Mtn. so you can imagine my face when I firsy stepped in. To me, that place was like a candy store, aisles and aisles of anything fishing. We probably looked around for a good two-three hours for anything we wanted. Plus an additional hour checking out the upstairs and all their hunting equipment and a few rounds on the shooting range. Then an additional 20 minutes checking out the fish in the fish tank and MASSIVE size to some of the bass. I also thought the prices were great too, here is a list of all that I got -KVD sexy frog -Heddon Spook -Perfect Plastic finesse worms -Rage tail Space monkeys -4" Zoom lizards in watermelon -Two strike king jigs in Green Pumpkin and a dark green -Rage tail chunks in green pumpkin and that was all 55 dollars and change, I see that as a steal seeing as I can go to Gander Mtn. and buy 4 lures and spend 40 dollars. I was very happy and will deffinitly be making trips for when I need something, my buddy gets 24+ miles to the gallon in his car so the drive is definitly worth it! Quote
Big-O Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I average spending a couple of hours each time I visit there as well. It's an Indoors - Outdoor World Glad you had a good time! Now if they had a standard everyday area where folks could go for learning Flippin', Pitchin, Castin' and basic rigging info or maybe ask questions to learn some new things and receive detailed instruction on technique... Uhhh that would be AWESOME Maybe I should put a bug in someones ear They do some of that on several wkends thruout the year but an everyday opportunity might be a huge draw for them too. endless Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Yea wrong section but Do PM and let me know how that KVD frog work. What color did you get?? Never heard of Perfect Plastic, who the creator or Perfect Plastic is? the shooting range (laser range right) I love that game. Went today my wife took my son to play I didn't. The fish tank is nice. Do your store have the glass elevator in from of the trout pond? Also do you's have the Fish Company restaurant? If does the Teriyaki Mahi Mahi is great! Alligator is too if they have it. Nice collection is post some pics when you make a catch! By the way next time if your store have it play the NASCAR. I yet to play it here but man oh man it looks FUN! I think its $5 Quote

Yea I remember when they had the Tungsten crew there and they also had another event where they had you trying to pitch in a 5 gallon bucket from a boat. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 18, 2011 Super User Posted August 18, 2011 Super story about your first trip to a BPS. My first venture was at the Charlotte, North Carolina store which is a giant of a place. I freaked out and had my wife take a photo of me in front of the store. The BPS north of Richmond, Virginia on I-95 is a great place to visit. My wife likes to go and we do a lot of Christmas shopping at the store for family and friends. The resturant is excellent, too. Avid Angler FL Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Congrats on the trip! I LOVE Bass Pro Shops. I go to the one in Spanish Fort Alabama. The store is absolutely AMAZING!!! The first time I went a few years ago my jaw DROPPED! And it STILL does everytime I go in there. It's just amazing. If any of ya'lls BPS stores have a White River Fly Shop, I'd advise to go check that out if you're a fan of taking the old fly rod out occasionally. AMAZING place to go to ! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted August 18, 2011 Super User Posted August 18, 2011 Glad you went, it has to be seen at least once. Now you need to visit a Cabelas next Quote
John G Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I have been to 2 BPS's. Orlando and Ft. Meyers. I too felt like a kid in a candy store. Quote
endless Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Glad you went, it has to be seen at least once. Now you need to visit a Cabelas next I'm just glad mine is 40 minutes away. That and Gander Mountain and Green Top is right up the road. Opposite direction is another Gander Mountain. Cabela's I'm not sure where that is at? Quote
royal0014 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I actually have two BPS' near me The one in Prattville (AL) is ok, standard fare, but the one in Leeds (birmingham) is the absolute bomb. Their fishing dept is friggin' HUGE! Row after row of any bait you can think of. 5-6 rows just of plastic worms and such, another 10 of cranks and spinners. Any brand, style, or color. Even has a fair selection of saltwater stuff, though it's 400 miles to the ocean Stopped at the Gander Mntn in Knoxville, TN last year. Was not impressed. Lousy selection, and what they had looked like it had been on the shelf for years... Quote
ICU812 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 << Jealous lol all we have out here is like LL Beans and Dick's haha Sounds like a great time and good deals man! Nice! Quote
MaineBassMan Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 We have a Cabelas here to ICU812, but BPS is much better for the bass fisherman. You do know that there is a nice BPS in Foxboro, MA right? I've been there and its nice. Quote

I've been there and its nice. Is the closest Cabelas in Portland? That might be a little too far for me right now, and I definitely can't justify driving to MA to get tackle - I have some family in MA though and used to live in Boston for a bit (Before I started back up fishing), If I get down there again soon you know where I'll be headed! For now though, it's pretty much *** for me - Yay Interwebs!!! I'd like to undergo the "BPS Experience" someday though Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted August 20, 2011 Super User Posted August 20, 2011 For all you guys who go to the Richmond BPS, Talk to the guys out front smoking by the pond. I got to talking to one of the guys who is a big fisher and long story short he lit me pitch some craws in there from a pre-rigged combo inside. Although we rigged it so the chance of actually hooking a fish was a minimum. It was like a 1/0 finnese hook, just big enough to attach the craw fish. But I love BPS. Everyone i've talked to there in the fishing is department is very nice and friendly, and very knowledgeable. I can talk to them for hours just walking around and talking about the new stuff, old stuff, etc. Also, in the Richmond BPS they still have a few BPS Prolites there for $60(?) . I picked one up and they are quite nice for weightless plastics. NOT good however for anything more than say 1/2 ounce total weight. Quote
