The last four or five bags of u-vibe speed craws and brush hogs I've bought have had a lot of deformed baits. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if the deformed places weren't right where you rig them. I think Zoom's quality control is slipping up. Anyone else seeing this to?

I have noticed this too, almost exclusively with the speed craws and ultra vibe. It seems like half of my package will be messed up in some way shape or form.

It probably due to the heat. Many stores leave boxes out in non air conditioned storage until ready to stock the shelves.

I've been getting a few in every pack, but hey, im getting 20 worms for $2. I cant complain.

I haven't noticed any problems and I use Zoom plastics a lot. I'm wondering about the heat thing to, maybe they sat out in a hot storeroom for too long.

This is the second complaint now. I got a few deformed grubs....They still work...so it doesn't bother me.

I get that same thing with the trick worms a lot but I usually cut the first half inch off to make them easier to rig anyways. I get some brush hogs that look like they got pinched sometimes but they still catch fish.

It's rare that I find a deformed Zoom bait where I live, and I'm also leaning towards the storage factor because I doubt they'd let them come out of the factory with that many defects.

Shouldn't they be made to handle some heat. It's not like my storage compartments in my boat are climate controlled. Aren't other brands stored in the same manner.

I don't see it as being the company's responsibility to make sure the product stays good no matter where you keep them. I agree with it having to do with being left out in the heat. I would say something to the store and I would take a look at the plastics before I buy them.

I love zoom baits.

.

It is 100% the companies responsibility to provide a product that will stand up to any environment it faces, particularly in fishing. If they're using too soft a plastic and it deforms in from storage in the boat or in an area that isn't climate controlled... there's an issue that needs to be corrected.

It would take some pretty serious heat to deform plastics like this...

And if it was heat related, I definitely wouldn't buy any rods or line from that retailer.

I'm going to have to go with this. I rarely ever see any deformed Zoom baits and they are my favourite company because of the cheap price. I've seen more GYCB baits deformed than Zoom. Mainly senkos with dents and not being straight (5" ones). Doesn't bother me if they still catch fish. Hardbaits, now that's a different story. I expect every Lucky Craft to be perfect.

It takes about 300F to melt salty plastics, so storage temperature is not a contributor.

The bad baits I've gotten in the past look like the ones in Stashers post. In molding terms this is called, "sink". It is caused by an under-filled condition in the mold or an in-molded stress which causes the material to shrink non uniformly when cooling. In either case, a little more attention to the molding/quality control process can cure this.

I always check bags of zoom baits in the store before buying them.
