im going to bps friday and wanna get a new spinning set up for the use of my weightless set up ive been using heavily and i have a 5'6 light action rod which doesnt have the power or strength to rip out some of the fish in that hit it the main concern is its a small pond and i fish it from the banks and theres a lot of trees and other goodies to get caught up in when trying to cast so i wanted to get a 6 foot rod and a slightly larger reel with a higher line spooling preferbly 10lb or larger test ( theres monster bass in this pond one snapped my line 4 days in a row now!) so anyone have any ideas on what kind of reel and rod i should get im looking for a 6ft spinning rod with some backbone and sensitivy and a decent reel that can hold larger lb test

How much you looking to spend? If under $100 for both I would look at this. http://www.basspro.com/Pflueger-Trion-GX-7-Spinning-Rod-and-Reel-Combos/product/100904/-1138020?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

They have one for 6' I had some Pflueger rods that I didn't mind. Got the job done till I upgraded. Allot of people love these reels. Me I never used them. Felt good in stores but I have the President and Supreme.

Bank fishing has two opposing challenges. As you mentioned the brush can limit the room you have to work with as far as casting. On the other side, casting distance is important when shore bound. Going to a 6'6" would be a good compromise especially since you have the 5'6" to compliment. You didn't mention a budget but the Pflueger spinning reels are a good bang for the buck. I use Presidents but the Trion is not bad if your budget can't cover the $60 for the President. Pair the reel in a 2500 size with a a Med power Fast action rod of the highest quality your budget can handle. As far as line, you may just need to respool or step up in quality. If you have heavy weeds and wood you might consider braid with a 10 ld leader if necessary.

Speaking of President they might have the combo in store. I have the XT but my brother has no problem with his President. The combo if still have should be something like this for round about $80 or so http://www.cabelas.com/spinning-combos-pflueger-president-spinning-reel-combo-1.shtml My brother has the combo he likes it. But for me I would try and see what combo deals have before buying separate if on a budget. This might be a nice combo too. I have an older Citori spinning rod that I absolutely love. I never tried their spinning reel but I do have the Citori casting that I like. Hopefully spinning reel is as good or better than their casting reel. http://www.basspro.com/Browning-Fishing-Citori-Reel/Hi-Power-Rod-Spinning-Combos/product/10211130/-1775544

Also maybe ask around and check into these

http://www.basspro.com/Daiwa-ExcelerHA-Reel/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-XPS-Rod-Spinning-Combos/product/10210969/-1788125

Allot of people seem to love the Exceler brand line. If I'm not mistaking I think ChiCityBasser has one (maybe PM him and ask)I never used one and the Pro Qualifier is a good rod if the spinning is anything like the casting rod which I have.

Also maybe check their website get an ideal of what your looking for and ask here about what your at. That might help you get an ideal or even narrow it down till you hit the store. Good luck on finding what your looking for.

thanks for all your help i forgot to mention that budget isnt in my vocab on this trip (birthday was yesterday got about 150$ in gift cards and friday is pay day worked about 50 hours the past 2 weeks so add about another 450 on to that) i was looking at spinning reels and rods i like the bps tourney special for the price for 50 dollars it has a lot of good reviews and a very good rating but the only problem is idk what kind of reel to get still i want to get a reel that stands up pretty well and has a good spool limit cause i have 8lb and theres a big boy in there who cuts it up like butter) since price isnt much of a concern what kind of reel would you guys choose?

The Saros is a pretty good reel from all the reviews I have read on it. The Exceler is a very good reel as well and was picked as a pretty good reel in a past issue of bassmasters. My reels are Quantum Catalyst PTi-A & B and also a Kinetic PTi-B and have held up fine under 4-5lb loads with them spooled with 30# braid.

Try braid if the 8lb line is breaking off or back off the drag a little to play the fish a bit rather than trying to horse it in.

Good luck on your choice and with you budget you will be able to get a very nice setup

yeah well what happens to me is hes a silent killer i use the weightless zoom trick worm and leave is slacked he slowly picks it up and you dont know when i start to take out some slack then its like hitting a wall then he starts peeling out and i loosen up my drag a whole lot and he just doesnt wear down then he always hangs in the same area right where there are a few fallen trees and a lot of underwater branches and timber he is my nemisis i found out that its a 9+lb i know a guy who does landscaping there and he caught it a few months back and told me that it is a big fighter but thanks for your help i was thinking about that reel 129 isnt to bad i mean the reviews are extremly solid so i think ill go with that one

Hit up a Dicks Sporting Goods if ones near you and ask for a price check on a shimano Stradic 2500 or 3000, they should still be on clearance, they are one line below the Saros and you won't feel the difference. They should be cheaper than the Sahara

For bank fishing, go to Cabellas or BPS and purchase one of their 6'6" medium heavy rods.

You can't go wrong with them and they can handle many types of baits and techniques.

Plus the fact that if you lose or damage one you have not made a large investment and the companies will replace them if you break them in two.

Get one baitcaster and one spinning rig. ;)

When I think of bank fishing, my experience includes lots of rod breaking trees and brush to avoid when casting and having to put my rod and reel on the ground once in a while to bait, retie, unhook a fish, etc. This has led my thinking for a bank rod to be short, inexpensive, and flexible enough to cast, and my reel to be quality without being to expensive.

My 3 favorite shore rigs are a 6' Medium/Fast St Croix Triumph with a Shimano 2500 Sahara. That rig has 20# braid.

Next is a 6' Medium/Fast TechSpec rod I got with Dick's gift certificates and it is coupled also with a Shimano 2500 Sahara with 6# Copoly line.

Finally, I have an older Berkley Series 1 6 1/2' Medium Fast with a Revo S and 12# Copoly.

I usually only grab one rod and set off, but occasionally I will take a second.

Good luck and sure you will get him by adding some braid and the reel of your choice.
