MaineBassFishin Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Would a 15$ pair of glasses from walmart be the same as a 100$ pair? for the polarization effect that is? Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 17, 2011 Super User Posted August 17, 2011 You can polarized any translucent material. The difference between polarized fishing sun glasses is the quality of the lens and frame. You generally get what you pay for. Tom Quote

Tom What I mean is does a 15$ pair work just as good for seeing in the water as a higher priced pair? Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 17, 2011 Super User Posted August 17, 2011 Does a pair of Strike King $15 sunglasses have the same performance to eliminate water reflected glare as multiple coated lens like $150 Costa Del Mars....no! If they did everyone would buy the less expensive sunglasses. Does the $15 work for seeing into the water...yes to some degree. Tom Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted August 17, 2011 Super User Posted August 17, 2011 The difference in night and day. I can see my jig working in 8' of water with my Costa's. I can barely see 1 foot down with cheap-os Quote
pitchinthejig Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Cheap sunglasses cant even come close to high end glasses... I use Oakleys and also the Numa and Iove both of them! Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 27, 2011 Super User Posted August 27, 2011 I used to think that they were the same untill I fished with a buddy who had some Costas. The water was very clear and he could always see the fish following the lure back to the boat and I couldn't. As soon as I got a chance I forked out the money for a good pair of Costas and I have never looked back. Like has been said. You get what you pay for. Quote
BobP Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 You do get what you pay for, most times. Higher cost = better optical clarity and greater degree of polarization. More polarization = less glare Quote
hookingem Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 It's like everything else quality comes with a price tag. Quote
bassnleo Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 To heck with seeing in the water! Yes, ok, that's important when fishing. In reality, I buy QUALITY polarized glass for the protection they offer. Just look at what the sun does to a colored object that sits in direct sunlight. How about a newly paved road, it's faded in no time. How about impact resistance? I guess to each his own but you'll never see a $15 pair of glasses protecting my eyes! Quote
MaineBassFishin Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 thanks for all the replys looks like i'll be buyin me some costas soon Quote
