zachb34 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Please help me pick my next rod what I am looking at so far is a veritas, vendetta verdict, bps carbonlite, and quantum smoke pt. Apparently the veritas and vendetta are made of the same graphite but have diferent blanks so whats the difference? I already have the veritas and love it ,but it broke thankfully they replaced it. I have heard good things about all the rods I mentoned. I have also heard about breakage on the verdict but is it that much worse than the veritas? Any other reccomendations would be appreciated. Super User BrianinMD Posted August 16, 2011 Super User Posted August 16, 2011 Casting or Spinning? What techniques you planning to use it for? What is your budget? Quote
zachb34 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Casting in the 100-130 dollar range and I am looking for a rod that has good sensitivity for fishing plastics. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 16, 2011 Super User Posted August 16, 2011 The only one is the list I currently have is the Vendetta, a 7ft MH version, it is not bad for the money. I have heard good things about the Carbonlite, but no direct experience with them. For the money I would go with a Falcon Bucco, nicely balance, lightweight, and sensitivity is good. Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted August 16, 2011 Super User Posted August 16, 2011 No, have not looked into them enough to give a decent answer. I am sure someone will chime in with a good answer. Quote
figure8racer Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Of the possibilities you have listed I currently own the veritas, carbonlite, and smoke. For me the technique I use most requiring sensitivity is a wacky rigged senko and for that I use the smoke. It is lighter than a popcorn fart and the most sensitive of the 3 for me. I've got a lews $90 reel on it which balances well and adds tothe sensitivity. The carbonlite is a close second for me and is also light/sensitive but just a little less so than the smoke. My smoke is a 6'6" medium and the carbonlite is a 7' medium. I love them both and am slowly replacing all my rods with varios micro guide rods. I absolutely love the microguides and don't think u can go wrong with the smoke or the carbonlite. I was throwing a spook about 2 weeks after I got the smoke and accidentally hooked my smoke with a trebble on the backcast throwing my smoke out into the pond. When I saw it sailing towards the water I panicked and yanked back on the spook and broke the tip off the smoke. I returned it to bps and told them exactly what happened and they replaced it for me so. I've been extremely happy with it. Caught a 5lber on it a week ago and it held up well and controlled the bass better than I expected for a 6'6" medium power. Not bashing the veritas either but for the money I'd go with the smoke first and carbonlite second. I'm partial to microguides so that plays into my opinion as well but tje smoke/carbonlite r lighter/ more sensitive for sure. Quote
Mike__D Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I'll look into the falcon. You dont have any idea in the difference between the vendetta and the veritas? Both the Vendetta and Veritas use 30 ton graphite blanks. The main difference is the Veritas blank is coated with Abu Garcia's Nano Technology. From the abu garica website: "Nano Technology provides 2.5 times the impact resistance of standard graphite rods through the manipulation of graphite on an atomic level. This prevents microscopic nicks and dings that cause other rods to snap. Now you can count on your rod to stay intact when that all important fish is on the line" Another thing to mention is when the Vendettas came out the guides on them were Pac Bay DPL TiCH Frame and now on the AG website the guides are listed as Pac Bay guides with SiC inserts. I'm not sure if this a typo or AG actually changed the guides used for the vndetta rod line up??? That one you'll have to contact AG directly for an answer. Mike D Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Lamiglas Excel and Competitor series are worth a look. The St Croix Premier line is right in your budget too. Quote
zachb34 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 I already have the premier and use it for crankbaits. Quote
Packard Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I use my BPS Extreme 6'6" MH for plastics and jigs. It's right in your price range and is a great value rod. Bass Pro has a great warranty and customer service. The Falcon Bucoo is also a great rod but I use mine for crankbaits. The BPS Extreme have a really thick cork handle though, I like it but I know not everyone will. The Falcon Bucoo has a split grip handle and is really thin eva. I find it a little hard to cast the Bucoo with the thin handle but have only had it for a week so hopefully I'll adjust. Quote
zachb34 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 The eva foam shouldn't be a problem I personally prefer it over cork grip, but I will use cork if its a better rod. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I have a Veritas, Vendetta, and Carbonlite and there is no doubt in my mind that the Carbonlite is the best rod of the three. Super light and super sensitive. 7' MH/F would suite you well. Quote

I have the Smoke as well 7' MF and yes it pretty sensitive and light 3.4oz. Its more sensitive than my St Croix Premier and just a touch less than my Avid. I would say if you have a Premier you would be downgrading by going to Vendetta. Quote
Packard Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Im either going to buy the vendetta or carbonlite. how would you compare the veritas and vendetta. Veritas is worth the extra $20 in my opinion. But between the Veritas and the Carbonlite, I'd go with the Carbonlite. Quote
zachb34 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 so many decisions I wish I could buy them all. Quote

Mike D Thanks for going through the trouble to figure that out for me one of the guides just popped out of my replacement veritas so I might just stay away from abu since they told me to find a new rod. "BRB" Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I have three carbonlite. Two I use for cranking one on for spinning reel and I love them I'm slowly trying just to replace all my rods with them. And since its a bps brand the put them on sell ever now and then and you can get a good deal on them. Quote
linesider83 Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 sorry to bring back an old thread, but i was searching but I have been looking at the same rods, but in 7 foot spinning, I mainly fish throwing rapala jerk baits and plastics, what kind of warrenty does bass bro do on the rod, since its there own brand?, i have read a bunch of reviews and all mention here a few people have said they have rod braking issues, even while just casting the rod, I like these modern split grip rods, but not even they are super easy to snap/ Quote
Senkoman12 Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Lamiglas Excel and Competitor series are worth a look. The St Croix Premier line is right in your budget too. the excel is a great rod for the money and its made in the USA to Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Lamiglas Excel and Competitor series are worth a look. The St Croix Premier line is right in your budget too. The Lamiglas Excel is one of the best sub 100.00 rods you will find. The Competitor series is on par with a Mojo for weight and sensitivity. I recently picked up a Dobyns Savvy 702, Champion 703 and Extreme 742. The Savvy series really impressed me. I can easily recommend that rod. Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Question: Would casting a jig on 15# fluoro go farther using a 6'9 MH/XF tip, 6'8 MH/F or a 6'6 MH/F tip? After checking out the Smoke, Crucial, Compre and having a Carbonlite rod, I can't decide on which rod to get. Any thoughts? Quote
