Casting or spinning? I always read the rod is more important and I do believe that.

The rod is the more important of the two when it comes to contact baits, imho.

We can rattle off rod/reel suggestions all day, but without knowing your budget you'll get suggestions from $50 to $500+

sorry i didnt put down all the info its casting and the range is 150 or under

If can still try and find those good deals on Curado or Citica. If don't mind used check the flea market here http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/forum/18-fishing-flea-market/ If want new. I'm one of those PQ fan and it has been serving me well that and my Carbonlite but I really want to to get the new Lews. Seems to have a great following here in the Pro tournament series but that's $179 unless can find onsale. Maybe ask about the Lews tournament for $139? I think when can I'm going to try and get one of those. I did like how the one for $89 even felt in stores. I came close to buying that one a while back. I wish I could tell you about them but I just felt it in store.

If your willing to buy on online, try to get a used reel as a good used reel is better than a new low quality reel imo. Look for a used reel in the Abu Garcia Revo Series, Shimano (Curado, Citica, Caenan), or Lews (Speed Spool or Tournamet MG). Try to spend a little less than half your money on that. Then for the Rod I would try to get one of the closeout Compre's or Crucial's but some of the house brands at Bass Pro or Cabelas are nice. I know the Cabelas Prodigy is on sale and have heard nice things about it. The flea market on this website has some nice deals as well.

For the purpose and the price range you've given us, I hope that you might already have a baitcasting reel of some description and you would be able to put your entire budget into the rod.

I agree, I'd save up to at least $200 for a decent set up. Then you can choose from a variety of $100 rods and spend the rest on a Citica or a nice used reel.

I started getting better gear last year. From everything I've read, I have to go along with Okoboji. The more you can spend on the rod, the better for jigs and worms. Heck, I even discovered Saturday, that all rods aren't created equal for fishing the lowly spinnerbait.

As Packard said, look at the Compre on closeout. Here is a 6'10" MH that should do the trick for you at a closeout price of $65 (normally $100). Don't wait too long. Other models are already sold out.

I admit to being partial to Daiwa reels only because they are what I have used the most. I do have a couple Shimanos to try. Cabela's Prodigy is a Daiwa made reel. I have the older model. Not as pretty as the new. Or have as many bearings. I personally feel these are an excellent reel for the money. Especially if you can get it on sale for $70. Problem with buying from Cabela's is their shipping fee. Makes it not quite such a good deal. However, I feel the reel is a good buy at full price.

Another reel that I have read good reviews on (that seldom gets mentioned here) is the Pflueger Trion. I'd like to try one even though I now have more expensive reels.

Seems the Lamiglass Excels don't get the respect they deserve. I can't speak on them from experience. Just passing a possibility along. Used will get you a better rod. I can speak from experience about the Falcon Originals. I picked up 2 at a local shop in Florida for $35 apiece at the same time I bought a custom rod built on an Allstar (I think) blank. The Falcons are more sensitive than the custom rod.

You can get a decent outfit with the budget you have, but it is going to require some looking on your part...and researching before you buy to make sure what you get will be satisfactory.

i was looking at the abu venddta i think its called

I'm not a big fan of the vendetta, I'd spend the extra $20 for a much better $100 rod.
