Where To Put 3Rd Batttery?

Based on inputs in this forum, I've decided to convert my 2008 Bass Pro Tracker 17' to 24V to replace the 46# Motorguide trolling motor with a Minn Kota 80#. My battery compartment looks pretty full with 2 batteries and a charger. How do I go about adding another battery to get to 24V (where do I put it)? Thanks in advance for a novice question.

sounds like over kill. why not try a 54 lbs thrust motor first?

Can't answer your question without actually seeing the boat, but how 'bout this? Is there any other storage space which can hold a battery? If so, move your starting/electronics battery to that location and install the second tm battery where the starting battery currently resides.

I have a PT 190 and had the dealer I bought it from put the extra battery tray in. He had to move the cranking battery tray and turned the TM batteries perpendicular to the cranking battery in order to fit all 3. I don't know if your 175 has the same compartment size.

I've a 16' Crestliner V bottom boat and have been running a cranking battery and two trolling batteries in it for 17 years. One cranking battery and a deep cycle battery in the transom area and one deep cycle in the front bow storage area to give me 24 volts. I do run high capacity 24 series batteries.

I have the PT 170 TX and when I got it, there was barely enough room for a group 27 and a group 24 battery. I removed the gas tank and put in 4 group 27 batteries and a 3 bank charger. I use a portable gas tank so I can remove that to put in another group 27 battery. My bow motor is a 36V and I use two transom 12V motors when I fish electric-only waters.

Definately try moving your batteries around into different positions. If you have to you can always prop an edge of a battery tray up on a piece of wood or something sturdy.

In my old boat I didn't have room for all of them, so I ended up drilling my battery charger to the side of the boat on the stern instead of letting it sit on the floor next to the batteries.

You could also remove the battery charger and place it somewhere else. Depending on your brand (I had a dual pro) and your warranty situation... you can lengthen the charge cables. You could find a place for your charger either in a compartment or under your console and then run the wires backwards to it. Its more of a pain but it works. Some brands actually sell kits to lengthen your cables. I did this to accomadte two troll batteries underneath my center console when I only had room for my charger in the back. Some brands even sell cable extenders, but I just spliced mine on my own using quality products.
