I came across a deal on a Pflueger Patriarch baitcast reel for $139. It's got the 7.1:1 gear ratio with the 12/100 spool. Is this about as good as it gets for that price? Also, is that spool size ok, or should I hold out for the one rated for 14/130?

That's a great price on a reel that gets a ton of great reviews (including by Dodge). If you're not interested in one of the discontinued Curados, then that is definitely the best reel you're going to find in that price range.

Yea all yours, lol. For real get it. I came across but not have the money for but anyone in Va Greentop has A Patriarch on a 7'10 Fenwick rod. I think it was a MH not sure of action or what brand of rod. Rod to tall for my liking but the combo is $199 the last I saw it.

That reel got a good review on TT. They originally sold for $200. The reason they are discounted is the new XT model which is lighter and has the carbon handle. Still, if you like the reel, it is a good price.

that's not true. The reason it is discounted is because they replaced that stupid screw tight handle with a standard nut and bolt on handle. I have 3 xts and that handle is the reason I chose the xts. Still a very good reel just not a user friendly handle assembly.
