BassLaw13 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Has anyone else tried the Death Shimmer spinnerbait? I bought 4 of these lures and I really can't believe how many fish I caught on them. On my stop & go retrieve or burning it back to the boat, it felt like I was fishing a crankbait. The vibration is unreal. Obviously that twisted up wire arm coupled with a #4/#5 CO blade just increases the vibration from a standard spinnerbait exponentially. I caught fish using a stop & go retrieve, burning it back to the boat (which was actually really effective with all of the extra vibration), slow rolling it, and yo-yoing it--which may be the most effective on a tough bite day. I'm curious what results you guys are getting with the Death Shimmer, where are you fishing it, and how are you fishing it? I really think this is an innovation to a classic bait that will catch average Joes like me a lot more fish. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted August 13, 2011 Super User Posted August 13, 2011 I never heard of them until you posted this. It really looks like it would have a great thump to it. Not sure if the arm style adds to it or if it's just the big colorado blades your feeling. You sound happy with those spinnerbaits never the less. Keep fishing them and let us know how you do. Quote
David301 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 After catching a few large bass, my straight arm spinnerbait looks like one of those death shimmers..lol...I would try one out if they made the color I want in a 1oz, but they dont. Quote
MAD Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I am going to have to give mine another shot. I fished it once and was not impressed with the vibration. Although mine is a willow, the vibration is supposed to come from the arm. I will try again and report back on the results. Mike Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted August 15, 2011 Super User Posted August 15, 2011 Think I'll stick with the baits that I modify and/or build to fit specific conditions or situations.IMO thats the best way to optimize the effectiveness of a spinnerbait... Those do look a little interesting though. Also kinda wonder how much extra grass that thing will pick up on the arm and blades. Quote

I had the same question so I went out for a little while Saturday fishing from shore. I ripped it through grass, weeds, and laydowns and it performed the same as a regular spinnerbait. I'm really curious as to how it'll do when the temps start dropping this fall. Quote
Quillback Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 My credit card is getting ready to do a death shimmer if I buy any more baits. I think I'll pass on these. Quote
Stasher1 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Much of what has been written in the past regarding spinnerbait vibration has stated that it's a combination of blade configuration and wire diameter that determines a spinnerbait's vibration. If that is true, it would seem to me that crimping/forming the wire like the Death Shimmer spinnerbaits would actually increase the rigidity of the spinnerbait's arm, thus decreasing the vibration. Just my $.02 Quote
