do yall think the spray sents actully work and improve your catch or is it just a waste of money

Well I've caught a lot of fish with scent and without. Scent does help lubricate your bait if you need to slide through some weeds. I like to use scent when the water is murky. I feel it helps entice the fish.

I wouldn't say it's waste. I like kicking bass. My buddy likes bang.

I think that they improve your catch. It could be the difference between a fish holding on long enough for you to set the hook or them swimming away. I like the Strike King Coffee spray but I only use it for tournaments and such. You will go through them pretty fast.

According to Dr. Keith Jones, head of Berkley's research department, big oil molecules cannot be sensed by bass as their sensory organs are not large enough to accommodate the molecules and sprays consist of big oil molecules.

I use MegaStrike and Carolina Lunker Sauce because I believe they allow the bass to hold onto the bait a little longer after hitting it and I have confidence in both products.

If you want to attract bass with scent use Gulp! or Attrax, etc. but be ready for the catfish.

Dr. Jones' book, Knowing Bass, The Scientific Approach to Catching Bass is a fantastic read, believe Dr. Jones or not.

I feel the exact same way. The day I caught my current PB, I was throwing a lizard loaded with Mega Strike. I felt her suck it in and spit it right back up. Not two seconds later, she picked it back up and felt her crush down on it to kill it, that's when I crossed her eyes!

You are defiantly right about the Catfish and Gulp. I quit using the Gulp after the first couple of days because of the catfish. Talk about disappointing. When you hook into a 4-5lb catfish on a T-Rig they feel much bigger then a 4-5lb bass. You get that adrenaline rush after the hookset thinking you stuck a big one. Then you notice it fighting a little differently and realize its just another catfish. Another thing I realized is if I catch a catfish on a soft plastic lure. I can never get a bass to bite on that same plastic lure that got slimed by the catfish. I have gotten to where I will just throw it out and put on a new no matter what shape its in after a catfish has gotten a hold of it.

When it comes to scent I haven't found anything better than JJ's Magic and Megastrike. I've got a drawer in my garage that is full of just about every scent there is and I've tried all of them.

I've fished for over 30 years and never used a scent, started using Megastrike last year and have noticed that the fish absolutely love this stuff, they hold on longer, and I definitely get bites when I don't think I would have without it.

I have a can of the Crawfish scent but haven't had the chance to use it. Is it really good stuff? Also, something I've done with scents in the past is to buy a bag of unscented plastics, like Zoom U-Tails and spray a generous amount into the bag. That way, the next time I fish, the worms will have been saturated in the stuff. Also useful for keeping the baits from drying out.

I use Spike-it in a bottle. It seems like years ago, before JJ's came along, this was the Stuff. Since then, the formula has changed and smells more like acetone than garlic, etc.

I notice that whenever I use this, a lot of my hooksets are deeper in the mouth.

I like the Gulp spray and have had a couple times I really believe it made a big difference in the number of bites. I haven't caught a catfish on a bait with Gulp spray but I've caught several catfish on Gulp baits. Catfish fight hard so I wouldn't complain about catching one! I like the Spike it too but not so much for the scent as being able to add so color to my baits.

Well I figured the Spike-It Crawfish scent I have would go good with a jig/trailer combo, and a spray every few casts on a plastic bait might help. Anything for that added edge can make ALL the difference!

I've used the Spike It as well, mainly to add a touch of color to a trailer.

Its not bad but Im going to give JJ's a try also.

I've used a ton of different scents over the decades (anyone remember Sparkle Scales?). I honestly wasn't impressed with any of them.

But I gotta admit, JJ's and Megastrike are deadly. Seems I get more aggressive strikes with JJ's, and fish definitely hold on longer with Megastrike. I use both all the time now.

Most if not all oils are hydrocarbons consist of long string molecules with many atoms, i.e. organic chemistry. I am not sure scent works but it doesn't hurt. So I use it from time to time sapecially with a tough bite.

JJ's Magic for jig trailers, MegaStrike for everything else. I really like

JJ's, but it's messy. MegaStrike is VERY user friendly! Both scents seem to

help hold bass a little longer. I really think they like the taste.

In my experience Gulp and Megastrike are the best. Gulp > Megastrike for drawing strikes/bites. Megastrike > Gulp in that it doesn't wear off as fast.

I have always been somewhat skeptical of scents - until I tried GULP! for the first time and was amazed at the attracting qualities. But I quickly gave up on it because it was just too expensive to keep replacing the lure after every fish and sometimes after working through the grass. But recently I fished with a guy who was using Yum Dingers soaked in Kickin Bass. We were using the same Senko and he outfished me 3 to 1. Haven't tried it myself, but just wondered about this since the big 3 for this topic seem to be GULP!, MegaStrike and JJ's.
